HINGE.
APPLICATION FILED 111:0. so, 1911.
Patented Mar. 5, 1912.
-- WITNESSES INVENTOI? {c/ SEP/f 5055.
TTORNE Y8 g applied to a hinge similar to that and described in the United States Letters to. In order to do this the arm members d is closed asshown in said figure the locking links .9 will prevent movement of sa1d door away from the frame 'b or in the plane of said door. I
In Fig. .4 I have shown thelocking 11nks shown- Patent No. 1,009,108 herein efore referred of the said hinge are slightly curved as shown in said; figure andthe locking links or link .9 are pivoted thereto at 9' and the said locking link or links are also pivoted to the closed side of the housing a? of the main part or buttva into which the arms d project the same as in the lconstructmn shown in Fi s. 1 to 3 inclusive, and the hinge shown in Fig. 4 is also provided with links e which correspond with the link member or members 6 shown in said patent and which are pivoted to the closed sides of the housing in which the locking links 9 operate by meansof the pin m and to the other, part or butt member 0; by a pin n. Said pin". in the construction shown, being passed through the base of the arms d. With this construction the door?) may be swung in one direction only and through an arc of 90 degrees, but when the door is closed as shown in Fig. 4 the locking link or links 9 will prevent movement of the door away from the door-frame orin the plane of said door. F
It will be understood that any desired number of the links 0, d and 9 may be employed in the construction shown in Fig. 4, with the exceptions of the details specified,
the hinge construction here shown in Fig.-
4, is the same as that shown in Patent No. 1,011,512; and it will be also understood that the locking links 9 may be applied to the construction shown in the Patent No. 1,011,512 if desired.
With the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, it will be seen that the slidingconnection of the floating linkh with the hinge butts 'made'by means of pins passing A. through the end members of the floating links and movable in grooves in the top and bottom of the housings of the hinge butts as shown in Patent No. 1,009,108 are omitted, the floating links in this case having no connection with the hingebutts except by means of the linksd and g, but the floating links 0 in this case may, if desired, have a sliding connection with the hinge butts as above set out and shown in Patent No. 1,009,108.
Although I have shown and described the housings g of the parts or butts a as open at one side and at the back thereof, it will be apparent that this form ofsaid housings is not an essential feature and both sides and the back of said housings may be closed or partially so-if desired.
and with said'housings and which operate member with a stationary member, said hinge consisting of two parts connected by Having fully described my invention what I claim-as new and desire'to secure by Let-- ters Patent is; K
1. A hinge for connecting a swinging member with a stationary member, consist.- ing of two main parts or butts connected by movable parts and a lockin device which prevents the swinging mem r from moving away from the stationary member when the swinging member is in a closed position.
2. A hinge for connecting a swinging member. with a stationary 'member, said hinge consisting of two main parts or butts having housings open at the ;front, said parts or butts being connected by movable parts mounted in said housings and rovided with a locking deviceor devices w ich prevent the swinging memberfrom moving away from the stationarymember when the swinging member is in a closed position.
'3. A hinge for connecting a swinging member with a stationary anember, .said hinge consisting of two main parts or b'iitts one of whichis adapted to besecured to the stationary member and the other to the swinging member, said parts or butts being connected by movable members only, and a locking device or devices which prevent the swinging memberfrom moving away from the stationary member when the swinging. member is in a closed position. v 95 4. A hinge for .connecting a swinging member with a stationary member, said hinge consisting of two main parts having housings open at the front, said parts being connected by movable members mounted in said housings and consisting partly of S- shaped floating links which are movable in both of said housings and alocking device or devices connected with said floating links to prevent the swing member from moving away from the stationary member when the swinging member is in a closed position.
5. A hinge for connecting a. swinging floating link devices, the swinging member being adapted to swing through an arc of 90 degrees in both directions.
6. A hinge for connecting a swinging member with a stationary member, and consisting of two main parts connected by S- shaped floating link devices whereby the swinging member is adapted to swing through an arc of 90 degrees in both direct-ions.
7. A hinge for connecting a swinging member with a stationary member, said hinge consisting of two parts connected by S-shaped floating link devices whereby the swinging member is adapted to swing in .both directions through an arc of 90 ,de-
grees, and locking link devices operating in connection with said floating link devices to presence of the. subscribing witnesses prevent the movement of the swinging mem- 29th day of December 1911. ber away from the stationarymember when said swmging member is in a closed posi 5 tion. i 1
In-testimony that I claim theforegoing as my invention I have signed my name in Witnesses:
