The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all 'whom it may conce/m Be it known that I, Anous MCALPIN, of Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented a new and nsefnlilmprovement inBrick and other Molds, ef which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanylfi'ng1 drawing forming part of this specication, and in w 1c Figure 1 represents a plan of a mold constructed'in in accordance with my improvement;

The object of this invention, as applied to the production of brick, is to facilitate the removal of the brick from the mold without injuring or imparing the shape of the brick; 4and The invention consists in a peculiar construction of a mold, having movable-sides and ends to allow of the separation of the mold from the brick, substantially as hereinafter described;

On the outer surfaces said sidesand ends are beveled, so as to be thicker at their bottoms than at their tops, as more clearly seen in fig. 3. This improved mold may be worked either by handv or bymachinery. When operated by hand the bandA C should be furnished with convenient handles, and when the mold is lled with the pressed clay it is inverted and the sliding band C pressed down even with the top of the mold proper, and, the brick being liberated, themold is withdrawn.
When operated by machinery, the band O is moved vertically up and down by means of machinery without inverting the mold.
Boththe mold proper and its outer band or case may bc made of any suitable material or materials, and of any desired size or shape; also, other means may be employedthan those described for expanding the mold.
