. n I l! BRUSHING MEANS FOR DISK RECORDS FOR PHONOGRAPHS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27, 1912.
Application led November G, 1911. Serial No. 658,909.
-To all whom 15m/ay concern:
Be it knoWn that I, FREDERICK IV. lVooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles` v5 and State of California, have invented a new and -useful -Brushing Means for Disk Records for Phonographs, of which the fol `lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to means for brush ing diskvrecords such as are used in phonographs, and the main object of the invention vis toA provide `means for brushing the records or disks as they are inserted into andk removed from the case or cabinet in which the records are kept when not in use. A furtherl object'of the invention is to provide a brushing device for this purpose Which will give a light elastic pressure onr the surface of the records, so as to etfectw ally brush the saine/Without",- iabilityv of injuring the surface.
is a side elevation of one of the brushing de vices with a portion of a record in posit-ion', adjacent thereto.- Fig. 3 is a vertical section on linewain-Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective, taken from in front, of one of the brushing devices. Fig. 5 is aperspective.
of the. saine, from the rear.
40 l designates a record filing cas or cabinet series of vertical slots 2 in its front, the Jbrushing device constituting the present invention being located at said slots for brushing the records s they arel inserted yfinto and "Withdrawn fr 1n the case.
Each brushing device issupported on a bar or strip 3, there bein'g a plurality of these bars or strips arranged vertically at the front of the case according to the number of slotsv required, the spaces 'between said bars constituting the slots for insertion of the record disks, indicated at 5. Each brushing deviceconsists of a resilientstrip 55 having a brushing face. Said strip may A A further ob'ect of the invention is tov lsaid brushing devices.
yof any suitable construction an. having a` ccinprise aA strip t of resilient material, for example, cloth, which has been stiffened by suitable means such as shellac,.the device being formed as a strip of such resilient ma terial bent in V-sliape and placed against the corresponding bar 3, with the front' edge of the bar in the apex or angle of the V-shaped strip, this resilient support being provided with a brushing surface consisting',Y preferably of velvet or other fabric indi-Y cated at 5, having a cut nap or pile, saidV fabric being cemented to the resilient sup-v port or packing 4.
In order to secure the brushingA strip to the supporting bar or strip 3, `iaps (3 may be cut from the resilient strip of fabric at and fastened tothe bar 3, for example, by means of clench nails 7. T lie bars or strips 3, with the brushing devices attached thereto, are arranged vertically and in parallelisin ,in tlieifront of the case, Wit-h the apex of each brushing device directed forwardly.. and outwardly so that the full space is left at the front of the slot for insertion of the record, and the brushing portions on. ad-
jacent bars 3 approach one another at their inner ends so as to nearly close the slot, and so that as a record is inserted it will brush against. the brushing surfaces on each of The resilient brushing strip, supported at its front edge only, and extendingobliquely outward from its supporting bai, forms a freely movable elastic brushing flap which adapts itself to .the surface of the disk and insures brushing contact With vsaid surface. At the slot at each side of the case, a single brushing strip may be provided, consisting ofia strip et attached to the front edge of the side iva-ll of the case, and extending obliquely rearward so.as to approach the adjacent strip on the first spacing bar, giving a brushing surface for both sides ofthe disk which is placed in the end slot.
What I claim is:
l. In a case for, disk records for phonographs, the combination with the spacing bars at Vthe front of the case, of brushing Adevices consisting of strips of elastic material supported at their front portions on said bars and said strips being provided with brushing. faces and extending obliquely outward and rearward from said bai's to provide a resilient brushing face.
2. In a case for disk records for phonographs, the combination, with' the spacing vbars at the front of the case, of brushing devices consisting of strips of elastic material supported at their front portions on said bars and said strips being provided with brushing faces and extending outward and rearward from said bars to provide a resilient brushing face.
3. In a case for disk records for phonographs, the combination with spacing bars at the front of the case of elastic brushing means on each bar, consistin of a strip of resilient material bent in V- l(Irlapeand having an outer face of brushing material, the vront edge'of the spacing bar extending into and secured to the said strip at the vertex thereof, and said strips extending at each side' of said bar, obliquely outward and rearward from said bar Yso as to approach one another, forming a resilient brushing sur- "face for engaging the record at eaclrside means, a resilient strip having a face of brushing material, said strip being attached to said supporting ,means and extending obliquely outward from said supporting means f forming' a' freely movable elastic brushing flap yand means for supporting the disk ,recordV againstv the brushing surface while being moved to brush the same.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California this 26th day of October, 1911.
