FREDERICK W. WOOD, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
CASE FOR DISK RECORDS FOR PHONOGRAPHS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 6, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. V000, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the-county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cases for which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to a case for holding disk records such as used in phonographs, and the main object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of the case, whereby the cost of manufacture of the case is reduced to av minimum.
Other objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an embodiment of theinvention, and referring thereto: Figure 1 is a vertical section of a phonograph case constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line 00 -40 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line mac in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a. perspective of the portions adjacent to the joint between the vertical and horizontal bars for separating the disks. Fig. 5 is a perspective of one i of the buttons for such rods for ejecting the disks. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section of a button.
The case is provided with bottom 1, sides 2, back 3, and top member'i. The front of the case is provided with a series of vertical bars 5, arranged in parallelism and spaced apart sufficiently for insertion of the record disks between them. Horizontal spacing bars 7 extend rearwardly from the vertical bars 5, being connected with said vertical bars at their forward ends and being supported at their rear ends by engagement between horizontal splines or strips .8 which are inserted in recesses 9, cut in vertical ribs 10 formed on the rear wall 3, said vertical ribs 10 being interposed between the successive horizontal bars 7 and spacing the same apart. In order to connect the hori zontal bar 7 with the vertical bar 5 at the front of the case in such manner as to provide a flush joint and with minimum expense, I use the joint shown in Fig. 4:, the vertical bar. 5 and horizontal bar 7 having slots 11 and 12 respectively and a fastener 13 consisting of a strip of metal bent in U- shapeubeing inserted in said slots 11 and 12 and fitting tightly the respective bars Fraud 7 so as to hold the two bars inthe same plane. The bars 5 and 7 may be cut away Patented Feb. 27', 1912.

across the case from side to side, and ar-- ranged near the back of the case in the plane of the respective slots back at the front of the case. Springs 19 are mounted on the back of the case for engaging said ejector levers to hold the same in normal position and push rods 20 engage with the upper end of said levers to operate the same for ejecting the record disksi Said push rods near their forward ends slide through suitable guide perforations 21 in the front of the case and are provided at their forward ends with buttons or heads 22, said buttons or heads being numbered in correspondence with the number of the record. Each button 22 is provided .with a. cylindrical recess 23 in its front end, said recess having an annular channel 24: extending out into the wall of the recess, so that the number disk 25 and the transparent cover disk 26 therefor, may be pressed into said channel, said disks being of slightly greater diameter than said recess, 'so that they are snapped out into the annular channel aforesaid and are thereby retained in place.
What I claim is:
1. In a record case, the combination with vertical front, bars spaced apart to form slots, of horizontal spacing bars extending" in the plane of said front bars, and connected to said front bars at their forward ends, and means for supporting the rear ends of said horizontal spacing bars, each horizontal bar and the corresponding vertical bar having opposite slots and being connected by a fastener extending in said slots, said fastener being bent in U-shape to engage said bars.
2. In a record case, the combination with vertical front bars spaced apart to form slots, of horizontal spacing bars extending in the plane of said front bars, and connected to said front bars at their forward ends,
The
and means for supporting the rear ends of In testimony whereofi I have. hereunto said horizontal spacing bars, each horizonset my hand at Los Angeles, California, this -10 gal bar and the corresponding vertical bag 26th day of October, 1911,. 1 f Min 0 osite slots ant bein connecte T by a iast el der extending in said? slots, said FREDERICK fastener being bentin U-shape to engage In presence of said bars, said fastener being embedded in IXRTHURA'P. KNIGHT,
said bars, so as to lie flush therewith. GLADYS RUSSELL..-
