Description

s. GORNTO. SHADE FIXTURE. APPLICATION FILED SEPT.14, 1911.
Patented Feb.20, 1912.
COLUMBIA PLANODRAPH CO..WASHXNG ALBERT S. GORNTO, 0F NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
SHADE-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
AppIication filed september 14, 1911.
Patented Feb. 20, 1912.
Serial No. 649,346.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. GronN'ro, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new ,and useful Improvements in Shade Fixj the shade roller-brackets.
The object of this invention is to provide a simpe way of mounting the shade roller so that it may be bodily raised and lowered so that the shade may be so adjusted as to promote ventilation and to permit light to enter the room above the shade as well as below it, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing a designates a shade roller of the ordinary sort mounted in the usual manner in the shade brackets Z), these brackets being mounted to slide vertically in guide ways 0 fastened to the window frame, one at each side of the window. Pivotally connected to each of these brackets is a depending rod (Z, the pivot being formed by bending the upper extremity of the rod downwardly and passing it through a hole in the bracket, said pivot being designated by the letter 6. The guide way is formed of a strip of sheet metal bent upon itself to form a channel 9' opening inwardly, the bottom wall of this channel being bent abruptly outwardly to form a flange 7a which bears against the inner side of the adjacent shade bracket 7) and thus forms a guide and support for the same, the shade bracket being provided with a foot piece Z adapted to fit and slide in said channel y'. These guide ways 0 extend approximately the length of the window frame, and the flanges 70 project outwardly beyond the faces of the channels, and each of these flanges is provided with a series of notches f facing upwardly.
Each of the rods d, at a suitable point below its connection to the shade bracket, is bent abruptly to form a horizontal stop shoulder g which is adapted to rest in any one of the aforesaid notches f and thus sup- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for port the shade roller in any of its adjustable positions.
It will be observed that the shade roller may be raised and lowered by simply dislodging the stop shouders from the notches, whereupon the rods will serve as a ready means for positioning the shade roller, the manner of mounting these rods and their length permitting the operator to stand away from the window and readily and evenly raise or lower the shade rollers to the point desired. It will be observed also that when the roller is adjusted to the desired position and the rods are engaged in the flanges, the depending portions of the rods will lie along closely adjacent to the outer faces of the flanges and be thus protected against accidental dislodgment.
The letter at designates a clip which is clamped removably upon the projecting end of each of the pintles of the shade-roller to prevent the same being withdrawn from their bearings in the brackets when the shade-roller is adjusted to an oblique angle in the act of raising and lowering the shaderoller. The pintle holes in the brackets are of course sufficiently larger than the pintles to prevent binding should the shade-roller be thus shifted to an oblique angle in raising or lowering it.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and-desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a window frame, a guide-way fastened to the frame at each side of the window and provided with a longitudinal flange extending outwardly away from the window frame and notched at intervals, a shade roller whose brackets are provided with feet which work in said guide ways, a rod pivotally connected to each of said brackets and depending therefrom, each of said rods being provided with a horizontal shoulder at apoint adjacent to the shade bracket, said shoulders being adaptedto engage the notches in said flanges and the rods being adapted to lie adjacent to the flanges.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT S. GORNTO. Witnesses:
