Description

' lniftd 51am @me een.
ADAM KNAOKER, 0F MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 101,744, dated .Aprl12, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SINK APPARATUS FOR DRAINING- CELLARS.
'The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same v that the following is a full and exact description of the4 same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
A A represent the cellar-walls.
B B, the bottom.
G C is asink in the bottom, of which there may be a number sunk in the same cellar, if desired. l
In the bottom of this sink I drive a pipe, D D, with the lower end plugged and pointed, similar to the wellpipes now in use; and the lower end of this pipe is perforated with holes, as shown in the drawing.-
In that portion of the pipe just above the bottom of the sink O G, I put an elbow of pipe, with a stainer on its upper end, as shown at F. 4
E is a stop-cock in the elbow.
The pipeDD is dliven into the ground until it* reaches a bed of gravel.
On the upper end of the tube D 4a pump is placed,
and operated unt-il the pump draws water. The stopcock E is then opened, and, if it is desired, the pump may be removed.
Now, should there be any water in the cellar, it will run into the elbow at F, and down through the tube D D, and drain ol into the gravel at the bottom of D D This device is in successful operation in a number of cellars.
Should the holes in the bottom of D D become filled with mnfh by placing a pump ou the top of the tube D, and operating it again, the tube may be cleared.
I do n ot claim the pump and tube D D, but
WVhat I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
- The elbow F, in combination with the sink C C and the tube D D, constructed as described, for the purposes set forth.
