Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIUE;
GEORGE G. MESLER, OF DUNELLEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT lN DRAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,876, dated June 12, 1877 application filed May 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEURGE O. MESLER, of Dunellen, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Drain, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to an improved draining device for freeing cellars and other low places from water; and it consists of a tube having a pyramidal point and a series of perforations at its lower end, and containing a smaller tube, also perforated at its lower end and screwed into the pyramidal point, and extending a short distance above the upper end of the larger tube. I
in the drawing, which is a longitudinal section of my improved device, A is a tube of any suitable material and the required size, to the lower end of which a pyramidal point, B, is secured by screwing or driving it into the tube. Above the point B, for a short distance, the tube A is perforated upon all sides.
A tube, 0, which is smaller in diameter than the tube A, is screwed centrally into the point B, and extends upward through the center of the tube A, and beyond it a short distance. The tube 0 is perforated in the same manner as the tube A.
, drained.
The manner of using my improved drain is as follows: The lower part of the surface to be drained is selected, and the tubes driven down through the first stratum of earth and through the first watercourse, through the second stratum of earth, and into the seconi'l water-course. .The upper end of the tube A should be just even with the surface to be The water flows down through the tube A into the lower underground current, and whatever air may exist in the watercourse escapes through the tube 0, permitting the water to flow freely down the outer tube.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The. draintube A, having a drive-end, B, and central airpipe O, the latter extending with its open end above that of the former, and both perforated near the bottom, as and for the purpose specified.
GEORGE G. MESLER.
