Theplate A represents the face or jamb'of window.
B B is insidestrip, fastened on window-face to keep sash in its place.
C is the window-sash.
H is the outside window-strip.
K is the falling pawl; the shape thereof is represented in fig. 2. t
'l `is the swinging pawl the shape of which is shown in iig. 3.
J is the pivot through swingingpawl T, and fastened into the window-face or jamb, and around which the pawl moves easily.
V is the pivot connecting the rear end of the two pawls, forming a hinge or j'int.

The forward end of leach pawl is slightly notched, that they may be more easily moved when coming in I Contact with the sash C.
lo show the operation of these pawls,.raise the pawl K by handle O, shoving it upward. This will lower and disengage the forward end of pawl T, that the sash may be raised or lowered to the place desired; then let go the handle O, and the upper pawl will fall of its own weight against sash, which pushes rear end of swinging pawl downward, and bringing-the forward partot' pawl T upward and against the sash O, rendering its farther movement in any direction impossible.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure The application of two pawls, connected together at one end, and turning on a pivot near the middle of the lower pawl, as herein described.
