PLACKE T-FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JULE S. BAsHAw, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gainesville, in the county of Alachua and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Placket-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to plackets of skirts, and its object is to provide a new and improved placket fastener, arranged to securely hold the placket closed when the skirt is worn and to permit the wearer of the skirt to conveniently close or open the placket,

For the purpose mentioned use is made of two stays pivotally connected with each other at their lower ends and attached to the placket members to overlie one the other when the placket is closed, and a sleeve arranged for removable connection with the upper ends of the placket members, and adapted to engage the free upper ends of the said stays to hold the same against openm 1 practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a skirt provided with a placket fastener; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the upper end of the placket fastener in position on the skirt; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the pivoted stays; Fig. 4L is an enlarged sec tional plan View of the pivotal ends of the stays; and Fig. 5 is a perspective viewof the upper ends of the stays, the sleeve detached and parts of the placket members in open position.

The skirt A on which the placket fastener is used is provided with the usual waistband B and with placket members C, C having pockets for the reception of stays D, D pivotally connected with each other at their lower ends by a pivot E to allow of the stays D, D swinging open or closed Specification of Letters Patent.

The upper free ends of the stays D, D are adapted to be engaged by a sleeve F, provided at the opposite sides with buttons F, F for engagement by buttonholes B, B formed in the waistband B at the placket members, as plainly indicated in Fig. 5. When the stays D, D are swung into a closed position the contact members C and C overlie one the other, and likewise the stays D, D, so that the upper free ends can be readily engaged by the sleeve F which holds the stays D, D against opening. The buttons F, F of the sleeve F are engaged with the buttonholes B, B so that the waistband B is held closed and at the same time the sleeve F is held in position on the upper free ends of the stays D and D. The stays D and D are preferably fastened in the pockets of the placket members C, C by stitches or other fastening means, it being, however, understood that the upper portions of the stays D, D project beyond the pockets of the placket members C, C, as plainly indicated in Fig. 5, to permit of engaging the sleeve 11; tgi th the said upper ends of the stays When it is desired to open the placket, the ends of the waistband B are unbuttoned from the buttons F, F of the sleeve F, and then the latter is removed from the upper ends of the stays D, D to allow the stays to swing into an open position.

The placket fastener shown and described is very simple in construction and can be readily applied to a skirt to securely hold the placket members in closed position.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
