To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IDA BING, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in brushes and has for its object to provide a simple, effective and economic means for securing the bristles or wires of the same.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical cross section of a brush with part of the handle broken away. Fig. 2 a section of the same at right angles. Fig. 3 a cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 a plan view of a cleat used for securing the bristles or wires, and Fig. 5 a View looking from right to left at the same.

6 is the handle of the brush having a groove 7 cut in the end of the same.

8 is another groove cut at right angles thereto large enough to receive the cleat 9 shown in Fig. 4.. This cleat is preferably provided with a rectangular opening 10 through which the wires or bristles may be introduced and 11 is a hole to receive the pin 12 after the cleat is in position.

Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a tool of the class described, a handle having transverse cuts in the end thereof, a holding member having an opening and adapted to engage one of said cuts and means for securing the same therein and wires or bristles through said opening in said holding member and adapted to set within the end of said handle, and means for binding the combination in position.

2. In a tool of the class described, a handle provided with cuts in the end thereof, a cleat adapted to engage one of said cuts, wires or bristles adapted to penetrate said cleat and engage the other of said cuts and a binder to retain said wires or bristles in said other of said cuts.
