MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 15, 1911.
Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
Serial No. 621,387.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnnDnRIoK CHESTER- 'ION JARvIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Matcl1Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to match or tooth pick holders of the type which are intended to be used upon store counters and in which matches are placed for the convenience of customers.
The principal object of the same is to provide a box in which there is provided a partition, which will make it easier to withdraw matches from the central portion of the holder.
Another object of the invention is to provide the holder with means for regulating the amount of matches which are automatically fed to an opening in one end of the holder.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the improved holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the holder. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the holder along the line 33 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved holder comprises a body portion havinga bottom 1, sides 2 and a rear wall 3. The sides are provided with overhanging flanges i and 5, which extend across the top of the holder for a portion of the width of the holder so that a central longitudinally extending opening is formed. The flanges 5 extend down the sloping front edges of the side walls 2 to a point adjacent the forward ends of the walls so that the contents of the holder will be prevented from feeding too fast.
The front edge of the bottom 1 is providedv with a flange 6 which prevents the matches or tooth picks from running out of the holder.
A transversely extending partition 7 is formed from a strip which is bent intermediate its length and is provided with the feet 8 by means of which it is secured to the bottom of the receptacle. This partition is placed in alinement with the space between the inner ends of the flanges 4L and 5 so that when it is desired to remove matches from the central portion of the receptacle the fingers can be inserted to each side of the partition and the matches or tooth picks drawn out.
The matches or tooth picks are fed into the holder by inserting them through the opening between the inner ends of the flanges. The matches or tooth picks may also be withdrawn from the forward end of the receptacle. The flanges 5 prevent the matches or tooth picks from feeding to the forward portion of the bottom too fast.
What I claim is A device of the character described comprising a receptacle, sides for said receptacle having sloping forward edges, a flange formed at the forward end of the bottom of said receptacle, a plurality of spaced overhanging flanges extending from the sides of said receptacle, and a partition provided with laterally projecting feet mounted in said receptacle intermediate its length and in alinement with the spaces between said flanges.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
