Description

J. PANYOU. GALVANIG SHOE SOLE.
No. 101,602. PatentedApr. 5, 1870.
patent dtjfiiine.
JOSEPH FANYOU, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 101,602, dated April 5, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN GALVANIC SHOE-SOLES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letter- Patent and making 'part 0! the name.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DrJosnrn FANYO u, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and improved Electrical Attachment to Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specifi cation, in which- Figure 2 is a plan view of the under side of a shoe, and
Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section, showing the conductor-rivets, metallic insole, and perforated upper sole.
The invention consists in passing one or more copper rivet-s through the sole of a boot or shoe, each rivet passing through a zinc-washer or eyelet.
In the drawings-- aa are the copper livets; b b, the zinc washers or eyelets; and c, the flattened copper heads on the upper side of the sole (1 or, the rivets and flattened heads may be made of zinc, and the washers or eyelets of copper, if preferred, the object in both cases being the same.
In place of rivets I propose, in some cases, to use screws, as being more readily applied. I am aware that zinc and copper insoles are now in use for the same purpose, but I claim that rivets constitute an improvement over insoles, in that they better accomplish the object by producing more powerful electric currents, owing to their connection with the earth, and also in that insoles may be used with the rivets, if desired, thus keeping the heads of the rivets bright by friction, a condition favorable to electrical action.
A perforated upper sole, of felt, leather, or the like, may be placed over the insole or rivet, for the purpose of keeping the wearers foot out of contact with the metal.
Having thus described my invention,
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination with a boot or shoe-sole, of rivets or screws of copper and zinc,'subs tantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
Witnesses: DR. JOSEPH FANYOU.
