FRANCISEK GLOW'ACKI AND STEFAN KRZYZAK, OF CHICAGO, II LLINOIS.
HAIR-COMB.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANCISEK GLO- WACKI and STEFAN KRZYZAK, subjects of the King of Hungary, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Combs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to hair combs and the objects of our invention are to provide hair combs, commonly styled side combs, with a metallic adjustable band that will assist in retaining the combs in the hair and a hat upon the head, and to provide a device of the above type that is simple in construction, durable and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
We attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing wherein Figure 1 is a bottom plan of the device. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the device as applied to a head, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device.
A device in accordance with this invention comprises a resilient metallic band 1 having overlapping ends 2 and 3, the end 2 having a strap at embracing the end 3 and the end 3 a strap 5 embracing the end 2. These straps retain the ends together and allow the diameter of the band 1 to be increased or decreased as occasion may demand.
Riveted or otherwise connected to the band 1 at diametrically opposed points, as
' Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 615,770.
at 6 are curved depending resilient arms 7 and riveted or otherwise connected, as at 8 to the lower ends of said arms are side combs 9, preferably made of bone, celluloid or shell.
As shown in Fig. 3 the side combs 9 are adapted to engage in the hair at the sides of the head and support the adjustable band 1 in a horizontal position. This band not only assists in holding the hair in place, but provides an anchor for hat pins inserted under the band. Furthermore, the band can be ornamented or utilized for supporting crowns, aigrettes or other decorations upon the head.
What we claim is A hair comb comprising a vertically disposed split band capable of being supported by the hair of a person, straps encircling said band for adjustably connectin the ends thereof together thereby permittlng of increasing or decreasing the diameter of the band, inwardly curved relatively long narrow resilient arms having the upper portion of their outer faces secured to the inner face of said band at diametrically opposite points. said arms having their lower portions depending below the band and curving inwardly toward each other, and a curved side comb having the central portion of its outer face secured upon the inner face of each of the arms at the lower terminus thereof, said combs projecting toward each other.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
