IMPROVEMENT IN LAMPS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same l:drawing constitutes part of this specication, and represents a vertical central section. This invention relates to an improvement in the lamp patented to the inventor in this application, dated March 24, 1868, the object being the adaptation of a glass central tube instead of the metal tube heretofore used, such adaptation requiring a different construction of the parts; and
It consists in the arrangement oia glass tube with 'in the bowl oi' the lamp, with notches cut at the bottom to permit the supply of oil, and the upper end cap is also attached to t-he lamp.

The upper end of the tube is made Haring, to sit into the neck of the lamp, around which calcine plaster 0r other suitable cement is placed; then the cap is set thereon, the cement securing the cap, lamp, and tube all together.
To veut the lamp, I cut one or more notches, d, at the upper edge of t-he tube, and, during the process otcementing, inserta wire, f, through the said notches; then, as soon as the cement is set,withdraw the wire and the vent is eiected.
