Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. GER- ELDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tecumseh, in the county of Pottawatomie and State of Oklahoma, have invented a newand useful WVear Attachment for Wagons, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to wear attachments for wagons applicable to the corner of a wagon box to embrace the bolster and stake.

In various wagon constructions, the bolsters vary somewhat in width, as well as the stakes secured to the ends of the bolster, and for this reason it would ordinarily require a variety of attachments of this character for the various demands, and further, it would necessitate having the dimensionsof the bolster and stake in purchasing such devices which would be inconvenient and troublesome in many instances.

With the above and other disadvantages in view, it is the object of the present invention to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which may be sold or furnished in a condition to be applicable to various wagons to accommodate the particular bolster and stake of the wagon, and which may be readily applied without the necessity of special tools or by any person of ordinary ability, and which will also serve its purpose in an efficient manner.

To this end, the present invention resides in a novel construction as hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters indicate similar parts, and wherein,

Referring in detail to the drawing, this attachment comprises a rectangular plate 5 of suitable sheet metal having apertures 8 in the corners thereof, for securing the plate to the bottom of the wagon box and having a pair of slits 6 in each side thereof, and having a right angular extension 9 at one end thereof, the said extension having a slit 10 in each side thereof and having apertures 12 in the upper corners 11 thereof for securing ing inwardly from the ends of the junction between the plate and the extension. These devices are preferably furnished with the portions 7 between the slits of the plate 5 flush with the other portions of the plate, and the portions 10 between the slits in the sides of the extremity 9 and the slits at the junction of the device flush with the other portions of the extension. The device in being furnished in such a condition may be readily applied to the corner of the wagon box and the portions 7 and 10 may be bent in any suitable manner to accommodate and embrace the particular bolster B and stake S secured to the end of the bolster. The plate 5 may then be secured to the bottom of the wagon box by means of screws or other securing means passed through the apertures 8 and the extension 9 may be secured to the side of the wagon box by screws or the like passed through the apertures 12. When the device has thus been applied to the wagon it will be seen that the wagon box will be held against longitudinal movement relative to the bolster and stake in an efficient manner, and the device will therefore prevent the wear accruing from such motion as present in ordinary wagons. It is also convenient by reason of the provision of apertures 8 and 12, as described, to disengage the screws or other securing means and shift the attachment as may be desired or necessary without interfering with the portions 7 and 10 engaging the bolster and stake. It will therefore appear that this device may be furnished in a condition to be readily applicable to various wagons to accommodate the particular bolster and stake in a convenient and efficient manner, and this device is further characterized by its extreme simplicity and cheapness in construction.

Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
