I/VILLIAM IV. BRUCE, OF. BEIWIENT, ILLINOIS.
WAGON-STANDARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
Application filed April 3,1906. Serial No. 309,680.
To ctLZ whom, 7325 may concern.-
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM WV. BRUCE, a resident of Bement, in the county of Piatt and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in \Vagon- Standards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a strong and simple metal standard which may be readily secured firmly to a bolster of a wagon.
The invention is exemplified in the struc ture hereinafter described, and it is defined in the appended claims.
In the drawing forming part of this specification the standard is shown in perspective.
The standard is composed of the vertical plate 1 and the strengthening rib 2, and it has a base-plate 3. The inner surface of plate 1 has a narrow recess 5 for the securing-bolt S and a wider recess 4 for the head 7 of the bolt. Straps 9 are secured one to each side of the rib 2 of the standard by bolt 11 and to the bolster by bolt 10. A bolt 12 extends through the bolster and through a hole in the outer end of the baseplate 3, and a nut 13 screws on the bolt 12. The base-plate has shoulders 6 formed on its edges to bear against the straps 9 and stiffen the connection.
Rings 14 are pivotally attached to rib 2 of the standard, and they are adapted to hold a stake used to lengthen the standard. A housing 14 is formed at the base of the standard to incase the recesses 4 and 5.
The standard is shown at 15. The bolts 8 and 12 secure the standard against tilting away from the wagon-box, and the bracestraps effectually hold the standard against tilting lengthwise of the boX. The standard is made of a single casting, except for the brace-straps and the stake-rings, and the attachment to the bolster is effected by the use of three bolts.
I claim- 1. A wagon-standard comprising a casting constituting a standard and a base-plate, the inner surface of the casting being recessed at its lower end to receive a bolt and b0lthead, and a pair of brace-straps attached to the sides of the casting and adapted to embrace a bolster, substantially as described.
2. A wagon-standard comprising a casting constituting the angle-iron upright and the fiat base, a housing at the lower end of the casting having recesses in its inner face adapted to receive a bolt and a bolt-head, shoulders on the edges of the baseplate, and the brace-straps secured to the sides on the casting and bearing against the shoulders of the base-plate.
In testimony whereof I sign my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
