Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1912.
Application filed I December 7, 1910. Serial no. 596,109.
To all whom it may concern: A
Be it known that. I, GEORGE W. KAUp, a citizen of the United States, residing at Helper, in the county of Carbon and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hot-Water Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hot water bottles and the object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be applied to a plurality of parts of the head and face and conform readily thereto, provision being made in the bottle upon one when the device is used for resting the eyes or the like and the opposite side being constructed substantially flat sons to fit the forehead or surround a portion of the neck.
A still further object of .the invention is the provision of a bottle of this character which is provided with a single attaching strap which may be'utilized for attaching the device in any position upon the head or face.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view. elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents a substantially oblong receptacle of suitable material such as vulcanized rubber or the like whichis provided with a substantially flat top 2, flat Sides'B and ends 4, and a bottom 5 having a curved depression 6 formed therein. ()n one end of Fig. 2 is a side which is straddled by a strap attachingbailB to whfch the attaching strap 9 is connected. The opposite end of the strap is provided with an adjusting buckle 10 which is ser rated 0'1 its ends to provide a better grip-- sick headache, while valve cup 7 is formed ping' surface, and its connection with the s'trap forms a loop 11 in which is mounted a hook'ad'apted to engage a bail or loop 12 carried at the end of the receptacle opposite from the cup 7. The swinging bail 8 prevents the att-aching strap from pulling the valve cup into engagement with the face or head when the side 2 is used and also permits ready access to the valve cup for filling or emptying the Water in the bottle.
When it is desired to rest the eyes or to treat a headache from overworked eyes the bottle is filled with hot water and the side 5 is placed against the face with the depression 6 fitting over the nose. The device is then strapped firmly to remain until the head or eyes are relieved. The side 2 is bound against the forehead for the relief of pain in the head or a the same side may be used against the check or around the ear for relieving tooth or earache.
The strap 9 is preferably elastic as is common. so that when the device is bound tightly upon the head it will not feel uncomfortable and the receptacle is preferably covered with suitable fabric which is softer than a rubber surface.
Having thus described the what is claimed is- A hot water bottle comprising a substantially oblong receptacle having a flat side and a transversely grooved side, a pivoting bail connected to one end'of the receptacle, a strap connected thereto, and a buckle connected to the opposite end adapted to ad'- justably receive the strap for attaching either side of the bottle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature invention,
.in presence of two witnesses.
- GEORGE W. KAUL.
