These connections to the doors are for the purpose of automatically moving the bed frame in and out of the recess by simply opening and closing the doors. When the door 3a is fully opened, the door 3b is closed, and whenthe door 3b is fully opened the door 3 is closed. In order to provide for a narrow doorway between th'e\ recess and room, there is provided a mechanism connected to said shaft 4 and to the doors 3a and 3", the preferable construction of which is shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Mounted on the shaft 4 near the bottom is -I ,the lug 14 in approximately thesame relawhich is tive position to vsaid shaft as the arm 7. Pivotally mounted on the top side of lug 14 is curved rod 14a which is pivotally 4connected to rod 14b which is pivotally mounted on lug 14'which is rigidly attached to door 3a. On the lower side of said lug 14 and opposite to the mounting of rod 14@ is pivotally` mounted another curved rod 14,d which is pivotally connected to rod 14' pivotally mounted on lug 142 which is rigidly attached to door 3b. These levers are for the purpose of swinging the bed edgewise relatively to the doors after reaching the proper position in its inward and outward movements as shown in Fig. 3, thus allowing the use of a very narrow doorway. j j

. In Figs. 5, 6, and 7 I have shown a modi-. fied construction from that shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, for thrusting the bed frame edgewise relatively to the door. In this case a chain 15 is attached at its one end to the lower surface of the door 3a, while the other end is attached to the side of arm 7. On the door 3b is also mounted another -chain 16, which is attached at its one end to lug 16, which is rigidly attached to said door 3b, and the other end is wound around the hub of arm 7, and the extended end thereof is attached to a pin in said hub.'

Though kI have shown and described a particular construction of a bed frame, and its mountings, I do not wish to be limited to this particular bed frame, but desire to use in connection with the mountings, different styles of folding beds, and I do not `wish to y be limited to this particular construction of shifting the bed relatively tothe doors, nor to the pivotal mountings of said bed frame in said doorway, but desire to include in the purview of my invention, the construction substantially set forth in the appended claims, particularly, the position of the pivotal mountings centrally in one side of the doorway. It will be noted here that the door 3a with its attachments and connections to the head, frame, are not necessary to this bedconstruction, but is desirable for the purpose of closing the recess when the bed is in use.

It is, obvious that with the construction as illustrated and described, there is provided a recess yor wall hed that is simple of construction, automatic in its operation with the opening and closing of the doors; that it requires but a minimum of doorway width; that it requires but a minimum recess depth, and further that this hed construction can he installed in closets now in use, having very narrow doorways, without special preparation except for the installing of the parts.

Having thus described my invention,what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A wall or recess bed, comprising a vertical shaft mounted centrally in a doorway to one side theretf, horizontal arms rigidly mounted on said haft, a hed frame pivotally mounted on said /horizontal arms, and means connectedto satd bed frame and to said shaft adapted to shift the bed relatively to said pivotal mountings, all substantially as set forth.

2. A wall olrhtecess bed comprising a vertical shaft pivotally mounted on a bearing centrally in the threshold in the one. side of a doorway, horizontal projecting arms each provided with a vertical extension rigidly mounted on said shaft, a bed frame pivotally mounted on said vertical extension, doors for closing said doorway,- and means connected with said doors and said bed frame adapted to shift the bed edgewise relatively to said doorway, all substantially as set forth.

3. A device of the character described, comprising a door frame in the wall of a receptaclefopposite swinging doors hinged on tie samsideof said door frame, a vertical shaft: pivotally mounted centrally and adjacent to the hinged sides of said doors, horizontalfarms rigidly mounted on said shaft, abed `frame pivotally mounted on said horizontal arms, .curved lever means connecting with said shaft, with said doors and with said bed frame for shifting said-lied frame edgewise, relatively t o said doors, in its inward and outward movement/in said receptacle, all substantially as setl forth.

4. In combination, a door frame, of a receptacle, doors hinged'at one side of said door frame, a vertical shaft'pivotally mounted centrally and adjacent to the hinged sides of said door-frame, horizontal arms rigidly mounted on said shaft, a bed frame pivotally. mounted .l on said horizontal arms, curved lever means connecting with said shaft, with saidA doors and with said bedframe for shiftin said bed-frame edgewise vrelatively to said oors, in its movement into and out of said receptacle, all substantially as set forth. y

5. In combination with a receptacle'provided with a doorway into said receptacle, of Aa door hinged at one side of said doorway, a vertical shaft pivotally mounted cen` trally and adjacent to the hinged sideof said door, horizontal arms rigidly mounted on said shaft, a bed frame pivotallyV mounted on said horizontal arms, meanS connected with said shaft, with said dwns `and with said bed-frame for shifting said bed-frame edgewise relatively to said door, in its movements into andl outof said receptacle, all substantially as set forth.
