lV y invention relates to clutches designed to be used as guards for scarf pins, and has for its principal object, to provide 4means adapted to prevent a scarf pin from working loose from a scarf, or from being surreptitiously removed therefrom. This I accomf plish by the means hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

In the drawings, Figure '1, is a vertical longitudinal section of a scarf pin guard embodying my invention showing a scarf pin applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken yon the line 2-2 of Fig. l. i As illustrated in the drawings, l represents a tubular casing, preferablyreduced in diameter at the end 2having an insertion opening 3. The opposite end of the casing is provided with an inclined inner end wal] et, flaring outwardly in a direction opposite to the insertion end ofthe casing and forming a recess, adapted to receive a. head 5, having an inclined wall 6 corresponding in a general way with the inclined inner end wall of the casing. The head 5 is provided with a central aperture 7 adapted to receive a scarf pin 8, and with lateral apertures or recesses t), for holding frictional lballs 10, or other gripping devices adapted to bear against the inner inclined end wall L1 of the casing, and also against a scarf pin 8 inserted in the central aperture 7 of said head. The head 5 is. also provided with `a tubular stem 12, extending through an Iaperture 13 inthe conicalfend wall of the casing, which is preferably made large enough to allow the inner end ofsald stem to pass through and up into the interior of the casing. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-PatentJ is:

l. A. Scart1 pin guard, comprising a cas` ing having an insertion opening at one end and at the opposite end an inner end wail inclined inwardly forming a recess and pro` vided with an aperture, a head withinsaid recess provided with an aperture to receive a scarf pin and with a stein extending through said end wall into the interior of said casing, apin gripping device mounted in said head adapted to bear against one side of said end wall, and a spring within said casing on the opposite side of said end wall adapted to press f uid stem and head normally inward.
