Description
W.V SCARLETT.
STOVB.
No. 101,519. Patentd 11p1-.5, 1870;.
dnited (Statist WILLIAM SOARLETT, 0F AURORA, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 101,519, dated April 5, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAD-IRON HBATERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pari of the same.
To al! who-m. it may concern.:
Be it known that I, WILLlAM SCARLETT, of -Aui rora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof.
My invention provides a cheap and convenient means for heating dat-irons.
I take any flat-faced or other form of stove having sides either perpendicular or inclined, and'cast lugs or ears thereon, or attach suitable ears hy riveting or other means, and in these tit swing hails, which may be analogous in their material, and in their mode of turning on these ears, to the hails of ordinary kettles, but so formed as to support the iron iu a proper position while hung therein, and to he easily raised or separated from the stove .to a proper extent by the insertion of the point or other part of the tlat-iron, when it is desired to place the dat iron therein.
The iron, while suspended in this hail or strap, is held with its face in contact with the side of the stove, and by supplying a number of these hails, arranged around the stove, I am able to keep a supply of heated irons ready for continuous operation.
The accompanying drawings form a part of this specification, and represent the form in which I prefer to carry out my invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, and
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both the figures.
Referring tc the drawings- A is a stove of an ordinary pattern adapted for use in parlors, sitting-rooms, and for genera-l heating purposes. s
B B are ears, cast, riveted, or otherwise fixed on its sides in the positions represented; and
G C are my peculiar bails, crooked as represented, and turning freely at their junctions with the ears B.
The Hat-ironsy hang therein in the position represented.` When one is desired for use, it is lifted up parallel to the surface of the stve, sniciently to clear it from the bail, drawing the bail outward a little, if necessary, to facilitate its removal. After its use it is readily returned, as will be obvious.
My'ears B and hails C form ybut a very slight addition to the weight or 'cost of the stove, and, when l tastefully made, are not otfensive in appearance. The hails C may be cast, if preferred, andthe ears B, if desired, may be made open at the top or' in the form of hooks, to allow a ready disengagement of the hails, when it is for any reason desired to unhang or exchange them.
I claim the stove A, having swinging hails C arranged ou the sides thereof, and adapted to receive and support flat-irons, in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth. y
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM SGARLETT.
