Lcttces Patent No. 101,509 dated Agn'il 5, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVOLVING PLOW-COL'JER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, Mnnmr'r RICHARDS, of Princeton, in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Oolters, of which the following is the specification.
The nature and object of the invention is to construct an adjustable revolving colter to be attached to plows.
Description of the Figures. Figure 1 is a side view of my invention. Figure 2 is a top view showing the slotted arm. Figure 3 is a view from in front of the colter.
General Description.
A is the revolving colter-wheel made with a cutting-edge, so asato cut the sod.
B is a slotted arm through which passes the post 0 is the post which is fastened to the plow-beam, and extends down through the slot E, and is adjusted at pleasure bymenns of the nut I on the under side of the arm B.
H is the forked arm holding the colter A, andis at tached to the arm B by means of the nut and-screw F.
The post 0 is fastened to the plow-beam; the arm B extends to the land-side of the beam and post 0 the forked arm H holding the colter A is attached to the arm B at the end extending to the land-side, and at right angles with the arm B, and it is also loosely attached.
The post 0 can be adjusted at any point in the slot E, thus setting the colter at a greater or lesser dis- (mice from the beam. This is necessary when the beam is set so as to be oh or on the land, more oi'less, as is the case when the central draft is used, or at any time when the beam se'ts inside the line out by the coltcr.
The forked arm H being loosely attached to the arm B, admits-of the colter being readily adjusted.
By this mode of construction and arrangement I avoid the use of a multiplicity of devices that tend to impair the proper action of the revolving plow-colter, the object being to simplify the construction thereof, and impart strength to the whole structure; I therefore disclaim the devices shown and claimed in the patent of Pitcher 8t Elwood, dated January 19, A. D. 1869.
Claim.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination and arrangement of the arm B, having constructed within it a slot, into which the post a may be fastened and adjusted by means of a screw-bolt and nut, with the forked arm H constructed in one piece, and the colter A, in the manner and for the purpose herein described.
MERRI'IT RICHARDS.
