Description
S. T. DENISE, OF RED BANK, NEW. JERSEY,
Letters Patent No. 82,809, dated October 6, 1868:.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS.

TO ALL WHOM IT'MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, S. T. DENISE, of Red Bank, i n thecounty of Monmouth, and State of New'J ersey, have invented a newand improved Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, dud exact description of the construction and operation of the some, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which my invention is represented by a perspective view.
This invention is an improvement in the construction of the coulters, standards, and braces of a plow, whereby the instrument can bemade, more simple, strong, and durable, and at less expense than heretofore. The plow is at the same time so formed that it will not clog, but will clear itself.
In the drawings, A represents the point, B the share, and G the cutter or coulter, being all cast in one piece, of the form represented in the drawing. Thecoulter is provided with a sharp, inclined front edge, e, and its top is bent over toward the right, as seen at a, so that such weeds, sticks, &e., as may be forced backward and upward to its top will be dropped on the mould-board side of the plow, and not catch' under the beam.
The beam is connected with the land side by a curved standard, D, which, rising from the landside, bends outward and upward in a graceful curve, terminating in a, rest, r,-upon which the beam is supported, being confined to it by a screw-bolt, s. p
This construction holds the beam away from the coulter and lan'dside,-so as to provide more completely against the clogging of the plow. The beam E is'connected to the left handle H, in the usual manner. A brace, F, is attachedto the right side of'the beam, directly over the coulteigwhence it extends back to the right handle G, and thence across to the left bundle, being bolted to both handles and the beam. It is 'in a single piece, preferirbly in the form of a. round rod, flattened to receive the bolts.
i As thus constructed, the plow combines in e high degree all the excellences that have been hereinbefore referred to, Working easily, keeping itself entirely clear of obstructions, and being more firm, durable, and cheaply constructed than any plow heretofore brought into general use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersuPatent, is
1. The coulten, when terminating at its lower end in the point A, and at its upper end in the bent-lip 0, between which is the sharp cutting edge c, the whole being constructed substantially as described.
2. The brace-rod F, when constructed of a single piece, uniting the beam and both handles, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
s. T. DENISE.
