To all whom 'it may concern:

life it known that I, FREDERICK W. .Woon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mayer, in the county of 'Yavapai and Territory of Arizona, have invented a new and useful Case for Disk Records, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a' case for holding disk records for; phonographs or graphpurpos'e which is provided with. means for e j.ec't1on of the records.

- fine-object of the invention is to provideophones, and particluarly to a case for this means for automatically cleaning the records as they are. withdrawn from or inserted into the case.

Another object of the invention is to provide-a simple, lnexpenslve and efiective construction of the ejecting means.

"The case 1, which may be made of wood or other suitable material is formed as a rectangularbox having a series of vertical slots 2 in its front wall through which the records may be inserted into the box. I prefer to form the top 4, back 5 and bottom 6 of the box of wooden strips having kerfs or grooves 8 formed in their inner faces. Vertical. strips 9 are slid into the said grooves 8 in the top and bottom of the box,

the said strips engaging at their upper ends with a stop plate or strip 11 glued or otherwise secured to the bottom of the top plate 6' and said strips 9 at their lower end portions engaging with the forward ends of guide strips 12 which are inserted-in the groove 8 in the bottom 6 of the case. in this manner they are spaced apart by their engagement in the grooves 8so as to provide interstitial spaces constituting the' disk receiving slots 2 aforesaid. Disk cleaning means consisting of a lining or covering,

15 of suitable brushing material such as velvet, plush or other fabric with a cut nap are provided on the faces 'of the said disks and of the side walls 16 of the case so as to contact with the disk in the insertion thereof into. or withdrawal from the. case,

said fabric being, for example, cemented or glued to the sides of the strips and case, and extending around over the front of the strips and sides of the case. Fabric with a cut nap such as plush or velvet acts as a brush by reason of the ends of the projecting nap engaging in the. manner of soft bristles with the face of the record.

The bottom guide members 12 extend from the front strips 9 part way toward the rear of the case and rear guide members 17 consisting of wooden strips inserted in the grooves 8 in the bottom and back members 6 and 5 of the case extend from the rear ends of said bottom guide members obliquely upward to the back of the case, these guide members being in line with the front strips 9 so that when the disks are pushed in through the slots between the front strlps they will engage and be. guided between these bottom and rear guides.

The ejector means consist of a plurality or series of levers 18 pivotally mounted on a shaft or pin 20 extending transversely in the case, the lower ends of said levers extending between the rear guide 'inembers 17 and being provided on their front faces with grooves or channels 21 for engaging with the rear edges of the disk records so that as the lever is operated to move its lower end forwardly, its grooved portions will engage with the diskto push the disk forwardly through the slots in the front of the case. Springs 22 consisting, for example, of elastic wire,- fastene'd at the lower ends in the back of the. case extend upwardly back of the respective levers and engage at their upper ends in slots 23 in the rear edges of said levers, the upper ends of said springs 'being preferably bent back as indicated at 24-t0 facilitate their insertion and Working in the slots. These ejector levers are operated by push-rods 25 slidably mounted in holes 26 in the cross plate 13 at the front of the case andextending through the slots 2 through a slit 27 formed in the upper end of each lever 18 at the forward portion thereof, said lever having a transverse slot 28 rearwardly of said slitted portion to re ceive a head or enlargement 30 at the rear end of the push bar. I prefer to form the reduced portion of the push bar by mashing down the corresponding part of the bar, leaving the head or. enlargement 30 the same size as the body of the bar. Said push bars 2-5 are provided at their forward ends with buttons 31 for convenience in manual operation, and their forward ends are preferably arranged in a plurality of rows, for example, in two horizontal rows, the'bars extending alternately to different rows.

Indicating marks 32 consisting, for example, of numerals, are provided on the front of the cross-plate 13, corresponding to the different buttons and said indicating means 32 may be of different color, the buttons being also of different color, the odd numbers being, for example, of one color and the even numbers of another color.

The rear portion of the top member of 4 the case may be made as a removable piece as indicated at 4: for facilitating access to the parts in assembling, and a cross strip 35 ,may be provided on this top member to engage with the push bars 25 1 01 holding said push bars down into engagement with the slitted portions of the ejector levers. The described connections of the push bars to the ejector levers takes the place of a piv- -otal'connection and is not only cheaper and ,more'.

The operation is as follows: The records or disks 36 are inserted into the case by pushing them through the slots 2' at the front of the case, the disks running back between the guides 12 and 17 and stopping against or close to the ejector levers 18. \Vhenit is desired to use anyone of the records, the corresponding but-ton is pushed, reference being made, if necessary, to a catalogue or'list to determine the-proper button, andthe push rod 25 that carries this button is thereby' ushed back, causing the head 30 on said ar to turn lever 18 engaging therewith, so as to move the lower end of the lever forward. The groove in the lower portion of the lever engages in this operation, with the record disk and pushes the same forward through the slots in the. front of the case.

lVhat I claim is:

1. A case for disk records provided with vertical slots for insertion and withdrawal of the records, a series of strips within the case spaced apart to form guide-ways back of the respective slots for receiving the records, apivot-shaft extending transversely in said case above said strips therein,a series of levers mounted on said pivot-shaft to turn thereon, said levers extending down between the respective guide-strips and ex tending upwardly .above said pivot-shaft grooves in their rear faces, springs secured to the ease and engaging 111 said grooves to press the upper ends of the levers ed to slide in said case and engaging at their rear ends with the said levers.

2. A case for disk records provided with slots for insertion and withdrawal of the records and with guides for the records, in combination with a plurality of ejector 1evers pivotally mounted side by side in the case, springs supported on the back of the case and engaging the leversflto move their lower portions rearwardly, and bars. slidably mounted in the front of the case and having push buttons on their forward ends, said levers having transverse slots and hav ing their portions in front of said slots provided with slits, and saicLpush bars having reduced portions extending through said slits and being provided with heads engaging in said slots.
