UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNIE SARAH GRANT, OF WEST ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1912.
App ication med Fe r ary 1.3. 1911. Serial No. 808,347.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNIE SARAH GRANT, of the city of West St. John, in the Prov ince of New Brunswick, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating Glass Panes with Fly-Escapes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ventilating glass panes with fly escapes, and the objects of my invention are to provide a practicable form of glass pane, which will be burglar proof, rain proof, fly proof and dust proof and will at the same time ventilate and permit the escape of flies an other insects from the room in which it is used, and it consists essentially of a glass pane formed with a plurality of minute and outwardly extending pyramidical projections, disposed immediately adjacent to each other, and having perforations. in their apices for the escape of insects all as hereinafter, more fully set forth and described in the accompanying specifications and drawmgs.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a pane embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective view of a similar pane, showing a portion of the frame supporting the same.
In the drawings, like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Referring .to the drawings, A represents a glass pane, formed with one or a plurality of rows of outwardly extending pyramidical projections 10, each projection having a perforation 11 in its apex for the es- I cape of insects. The pane may conveniently be formed with plane portions 12, around the edges adapted to be received by the.
frame B.
It will be noted that as the pyramidical' projections are immediately adjacent to each other, there is no space on the interior beand consequently insects alighting on the interior surface are bound to walk toward the outlet aperture and thus escape from the room. It is found that the use of a pane of this character will very quickly clear 'a room of flies and like in sects. At the same time, a form ofventilation is provided which is burglar proof and prevents access being had to the room just as effectually as an ordina may also be notedthat the pro ections are more or less minute in size, being generally about one-half inch high and one-half inch across. Experience has shown that a minute pyramidical projection is much" more effective than a larger one. e
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that allmattor contained in the accompanying specifications and drawings shall be'interpreted as illustrative and not in alimiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A, ventilating glass pane and fly escape formed with a lurality of immediately adjacent outwar ly extending minute pyramidical projections having apertures their apices for the escape of insects, the bases of said projections being contiguous on the interior, wherebythe said interior will only present a series of ed es between the projections, which will not orm a resting lace for the fly.
2. A ventilating glass pane and fly escape formed with a lurality of immediately adjacent outwar y extending minute pyramidical projections arranged in transverse and longitudinal rows with their bases contiguous and having apertures in their apices for the escape of insects, said pane having a plane portion around the edges.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN B. M. BAXTER,
BYRON J. GRANT.
