Description

A. SARGBNT.
SHOW CASE MOIS'IENER.
APPLICATION IILED MAY 24, 1909.

SHOW-CASE Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 24,
MOISTENER.
Patented Dec. 13, 1910.
1909. Serial No. 497,889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALLs'rox SARc ax'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New-York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show- Case Moisteuers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device for use in a show case for maintaining the interior thereof in a properly moist condition and which will at the same time serve as an attractive medium for advertisement.-
The invention consists of a hard absorptive body polygonal in cross section and having one or more glass faces through which an advertisement may be dis layed. In its simplest and preferred form t to body is substantially triangular in cross section and has its upper face ,of glass and the lower edge reinforced andprotected by a strip of metal. The ends are held together and protected by means of caps which furnish means for supporting and suspending the device in .the show case.
The accompanying single sheet of drawings illustrates one form of the invention.
Figure l, is a perspective view of a device embodying the improvements of my inveution. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional view of a fragment of one end of the same. Fig. 3, is a cross sectional view of the device. Fig. 4, is a longitudinal sectional view of one end of a slight modification.
The body 1 of the moistener is composed of a hard absorptive material or composition such as cement or plaster and in the form shown has two ex osed faces inclined to one. another downwarc ly and toward each other. On one side for instance the top as shown a strip of transparent material 2 such as glass extending the length of the body. The name of some cigar or any advertisement of suitable character may be imprinted on the under side of the glass or upper surface of the body 1 or placed between the body and the glass so as to be visible from above. The lower edge of the body is protected and reinforced by means of a longitudinal stripof material 3 preferably having its edges 4, 4 turned inwardly and embedded in the ma- I terial of the body so as to be anchored securely thereto. Although the glass top may be adhesively secured to the body I prefer to use some additional means such as the caps 5, 5 having flanges which surround the ends of the body and the. top and bottom pieces. Suitable provision is also made for suspending or supporting the device in a show case. In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown eyes such as 6, 6 secured to the flanges of the end caps and have attached suitable supporting members such as chains 7, 7 Perforated flanges such as 8, in Fig. 4 may be provided for hanging on hooks or other devices.
The moistener may be manufactured cheaply and satisfactorily by placing the bottom strip 3 in the bottom of a trough shaped mold and then filling the mold with a suitable plastic composition then placing the top plate 2 and allowing the composition to set or harden. The structure is afterward removed from the mold and the end caps secured in place.
The moistener is dippedin water to prepare it for use and it will give off moisture gradually for a considerable period of time The upper surface being fiat it will collect whatever dust is likely to settle on the device and being of glass it may be readily cleaned. By its construction it is practically impossible for dust to settle upon the moist evaporative surfaces of the body:
What I claim is 2-- 1. A moistener comprising a hard absorptive body, a glass top plate therefor, and end caps for securing the ends of the body and glass together.
2. A moistener comprising a hard absorptive body havin two exposed surfaces inclined downwardly and toward each other, a substantially flat top plate therefor and means for securing said parts together.
3. A moistener comprising a hard absorptive body polygonal in cross section, a glass plate secured to one ide thereof and means for supporting said do ice.
4. A moistener comprising a hard absorptive body, a transparent top plate therefor, a reinforcing strip having its edges embedded in the lower part of the body and means for supporting said device.
5. A lllUlHtOllQl roniprising :1 hard ubsorpl reinforcing and protecting; strips for the tire body, a transparent top plate therefor, corners thereof and means for suspending :1 reinforcing strip having its edges enithederiee. bedded in the lower part of the body and v 5 end ups therefor. l \Vitnesses:
U. A moistener comprising a solid, hard, R. S. AL'LYIQ absorptive body of polygonal cross section, EDWARD F BLXY ER.
