To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Roy R. STREETER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Big Rapids, in the county of Mecosta and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample-Holder Attaohments for Stock-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to stock board sample holders, and pertains especially to a device adapted to be attached to the end of.

dry goods boards for holding samples of such goods as are bolted or wrapped around the boards.

The object of the invention is to provide a sample holder of such novel and peculiar construction and arrangement of parts as to be readily attached to ordinary bolting boards for inclosing or concealing a plurality of separate samples of the bolted goods, and adapted to be operated for dispensing such samples.

A further object of the invention is to provide a peculiarly constructed casing attachable to the end of bolting boards, and containing a slidable sample tray or drawer having a hinged cover.

A still further object of the invention is to provide novel and peculiar means for slidably connecting the tray or drawer with its casing.

Various other objects, advantages and improved results are attainable in the practical application and working of the holder as will :be hereinafter pointed out in the specification and the claims to follow.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bolting board showing the application of the holder, the goods being partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one end of a board showing the holder as being slid into position Fig.

The invention is applicable to any ordinary board 1, one end of which is cut out at 2, for receiving a tray or drawer-holding casing 3, now to be particularly described. The casing 3 is preferably made in one piece, and may be composed ofcardboard, or any other material best suited for the purpose, and as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings thecasing blank is cutv at aa and bent on the dotted line bb to form a back flange 4, on the in ner side of the top of the casing, such flange having flaps 5 bent on the dotted lines cc at'right angles to the back 4; the casing top has a side flange 6, cut outof such top and bent inwardly on the dotted line cZ-d, and the flange 6' is attached to one'of the flaps 5 the bottom of the casing has a flange 7 struck up from the inner side thereof on the dotted line ee, and the other of the flaps 5 issecured to the flange 7 when the casing is folded on the dotted lines f-f, so as to form the front of the casing. By this means an inclosure or housing for the vsample-holding tray or drawer 8, is formed, leaving a space between the lateral projections of the top and the bottom of the casing at each side edge of the inclosure for the end of the board when the inclosure is slid into the cut out 2, of theboard. The front of the caslng is out atggg, to form' an opening 9 therein for the tray or drawer 8, and the cut portions 10 are bent 011 the dotted lines h-lz. inwardly and are secured to the inner face of the casing front so as to support and grasped for sliding it.

The tray or drawer 8, for holding a plu-; rality of separate samples 12, of the bolted goods, is preferably made of one piece having side projections 13 at the rear end thereof for engaging the front of the casing to limit the outward movement of the drawer which is slidable in the casing between the flanges 6 and 7. A lid or cover 14 is hinged to the drawer at 15, and the front of the cover has ears 16 which engage the front of the casing and limit the inward movement of the drawer. The front of the cover and the front of the casing afl'ord means for labeling the goods.

bottom edge of the opening 9 has a notch 11; so asto permit the tray or drawer 8 to be It is obvious that, after the parts are as sembled, the device is slid onto the end of a board and tacked thereto, so that the casing will partially cover one end and both sides of the board and permit the housing or drawer-holding portion of the casing to be seated in the cut out of the board substantially flush with the board, so as not to interfere with the bolting of the goods. The

drawer front being practically flush (inclosed position) with the front of the casing, and the latter being substantially flush with the end of the board, there is no interference or obstruction by said fronts in handling the bolts.

1 In dispensing samples, the drawer is only withdrawn from the casing sufficiently to permit the cover to be swung upwardly on its'hinge, without detaching the casing from the board or the drawer from the casing. Such attachment and operation insures the retaining of the samples by the board having the sampled goods thereon, and avoids any possibility of interchangeability of the samples or the displacement of the sample tray or holder.

It will be seen that the device may be applied by a merchant to boards in stock, that the device may be changed from one board to another as desired, and that the device "may be expeditionsly attached .to bolts of goods as such goods are stocked by a merchant.

I do not wish to be understood as limiting the inventionas to size, material or shape, nor to its application to any specially designed board or boards, nor do I wish to be understood as confining myself to 'any particular number of parts in theprodiuction of the device, but reserve to myself the right to make such changes in the practical construction and application of the device as I may see fit or as occasion may demand, without departing from the spirit of the invention as covered by the claims now to follow.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A sample holder attachment for stock boards, comprising a casing having a central portion fitting an opening in the end of a board and having lateral projections embracing said board end, a drawer slidable within the central portion of the casing, and a cover hinged to the rear end of the drawer and slidable with the drawer.

2. A sample holder attachment for stock boards having an opening in one end thereof, such holder comprising a casing fitting over said board end and having a drawer opening in the front thereof, a drawer housing formed by the casing and fitting the board opening, a sample-holding drawer slidably retained in the housing, and a cover hinged to the drawer and slidable therewith.

3. A sample holder attachment for'stock boards having an opening through one end thereof, such holder comprising a casing fitting over said board end and having a drawer opening in the front thereof, a drawer housing formed by the casing and fitting the board opening, a sample-holding drawer slidably retained in the housing, projections on the sides of the drawer to limit the outward movement of the drawer, and a cover hinged to the drawer and slidable therewith.

4. The combination, with a sample-holding drawer for stock boards, of a device attachable to the board for housing the drawer, comprising a sheetof material foldable to form the front, the top, and the bottom of the housing, flanges cut from the said top for the back and one side of the housing, a flange out from thesaid bottom for the other side of the housing, and cut out portions leaving an opening in said front for the drawer, such portions being folded inwardly and forming braces for said front.

5. In a sample holding attachment for stock boards, the combination, with a board having an opening therein at one end, of a casing, a drawer-housing formed in and supported by the casing in said opening, a sample-holding drawer held by the housing and slidable therein, and a cover hinged to the drawer and slidable in the housing with the drawer in closed position.
