Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDRZEJ MAZUREK, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is aspecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to curtain poles and has for its object to provide a device of such class in a manner as hereinafter set forth for conveniently connecting a eurtain therewith and for suspending the curtain after it has been attached thereto.

A further object of the invention is to provide a curtain pole, in a manner as'hereinafter set forth, with a pivoted coupling rod for connecting the curtain to the body of the pole, the coupling rod is capable of being shifted upon its pivoted end and away from the body of the pole to permit of' the conveniently mounting and draping of the curtain upon the coupling rod, after which the rod can be swung into and secured with the body portion of the pole so that the curtain is fixedly connected in position.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a curtain pole which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a curtain pole in accordance with this invention showing the coupling rod in open position. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, broken away, of the pole illustrating the coupling rod in closed position. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the body of the pole with the coupling rod removed. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the body of the pole showing the coupling rod swung to open position and having the curtain draped thereon, and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the pole with the coupling rod in closed posi tion and further showing the curtain con nected in position. 7

Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes the body portion of the pole which is cylindrical in contour and of the desired length. The body 1 is formed with a longitudinally extending relatively long rectangular groove 2, having the opposing walls thereof formed with pockets 3. The groove'2 is of less length than the length of the body 1.

one end of the groove 2. The outer end of the section 4 is provided with a resilient member 8 adapted to engage the end wall 9 of the groove 2 and which constitutes a spring latch for detachably connecting the coupling rod to the body.

4, 5 is rectangular in contour and has its outer face formed with a plurality of recesses '10 in which are arranged pivoted T-shape latches 11. The pivot for each of the latches 11 is indicated at 12 and consists of a bolt having its head mounted in a recess 13, formed in the outer end of the shank 14 of the latch. The heads 17 of the latches 11 associate with the pockets 3 and in this connection it will be stated that the head 16 normally extends in a longitudinal direction so that the side of the heads will be flush with the sides of the

sections

4, 5 and when given a half turn the ends of the heads extend into the pockets 3 thereby connecting the sections of the rod to the body.

The curtain which is indicated by reference character 18 has its upper end draped upon the

sections

4, 5 of the coupling rod when the latter is swung in the position, shown in Fig. 1, the curtain depending from the sections. After the coupling rod is swung into the position shown in Fig. 2, the curtain surrounds the

sections

4, 5 and projects over the latches 11, these latter are then given a half turn so that the heads 17 and portions of the curtain Will be forced into the pockets 3, the heads 17 clamping the said portions in the pockets. To release the curtain, the latches are shifted from closed position; the coupling rod swung out- Wardly and the curtain can then be removed from said rod.

What I claim is:

1.- A curtain pole comprising a body portion provided With a longitudinally extending groove having the opposing Walls thereof formed'vvith pockets, a coupling rod pivotally connected at one end to said body and adapted to be swung into the said groove, said rod adapted to have a curtain draped thereon, and pivoted latches carried by said rod and shiftable to clamp the portions of the curtain in said pockets.

2. A curtain pole comprising a body portion provided With a longitudinally extenda ing groove With the opposing Walls thereof provided With pockets, a coupling rod pivoted to said body and adapted to have the curtain draped thereon and T-shape pivotally mounted upon said rod for clamping portions of the curtain in said pockets.

3. A curtain pole comprising a body portion provided With a longitudinally eXtending groove With the opposing Walls thereof provided With pockets, a coupling rod pivoted to said body and adapted'to be swung into said groove and further adapted to having the curtain draped thereon, and T- shape latches pivotally mounted upon said body for clamping portions of the curtain in said pockets, and a spring latch carried by the free end of said rod for engagement With said body.
