The resent invention has reference to means or securing rails to ties, and the primary object is toprovide an exceedingly yet effective fastener of this character. Y The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated .in the accompanying drawings, wherein 3 Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a tie, and a-portion' of a rail thereon, the latter being secured tothe former by the improved means. Fig. 2; is a side elevation.
Fi 3 is a perspeotive 'v iew of the tie plate.
gimilar reference numerals designate corin all the figures of the drawings. v
The portion of a railroad tie thatis disclosed is designated 4, and the rail thereon is shown at 5. Interposed between the tie and rail is a tie plate 6, having on two of upstanding oppositely disposed hooks 7 that engage over opposite sides of the rail base. The other two dia onally disposed corners are provided with depending oppositely disposed tie embracing hooks 8 that are provided with inwardly turned terminals 9 that 1 engage beneath the tie. The tie is furthermore provided with an inwardly extending arm portion 10 that constitutes one section of a the tie, these barsbeing preferably overlapped and connected, as illustrated at 11.

The tie plate preferably has on its outer side an upset ear 12 provided with an openmg 13, and in this openin is engaged the upstanding end 14 of a hoo 15 that engages over the outer end of the tie.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will out further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction, may be'resorted to without departing from the spiritor sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described-my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by-Letters Patent, is'-v 1-. The combination with a tie and a rail thereon, of a tie plate interposed between the rail and tie, sa1d tie late having diagonally opposite rail em racing hooks and other diagonally opposite tie embracing hooks, and a hook detachably engaged with plate and extending around the end of the tie. v v
2. The combination with a tie and a rail thereon, of a tie late interposed between the rail and tie, sald tie plate having diagonally opposite rail-embracing hooks and other diagonally opposite tie-embracing hooks, an ear formed between one of the rail embracing hooks and one of the tieembracing hooks and provided with an opening, and a hook ezgtending around the end of the tie and having an oifset end engaged in the opening.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- 85 nesses.
