.JAMES J'. PILLIOD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TROUSERS-STRETCHER.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1912.
Application filed November 7, 1910. Serial No. 591,081.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES J. PILLIoD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Stretchers, of which the following is a specication.
lVIy invention relates to improvements in trousers stretchers and has for its object the provision of a device of this character which shall be of simple construction and efficient in operation.
My invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention shown as applied to a pair of trousers, Fig. 2, a view of the device taken at right angles to that shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 8, an enlarged view of a portion of an upper corner of the device, and Fig. 4, an elevation of the device taken at right angles to Fig. 3.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises rear and front clamping members 1 and 2 adapted to embrace the lower edges of the trousers 3 when the latter are inverted. Threaded sockets 4 are secured to the upper edge of clamping member 1 and posts 5 are threaded into said sockets. Posts 5 pass freely through eye pieces 6 secured to the upper edge of member 2 and have their outer ends turned downwardly to overhang member 2 as shown. The free end of each of the posts 5 is bifurcated as shown and a sleeve locking clamping lever 7 is pivoted within said bifurcation. Clamping lever 7 carries an inwardly projecting eccentric lug or tappet 8 contacting with a plate 9 secured to the outer ,face of member 2. By this arrangement it will be observed that members 1 and 2 may be tightly clamped together over the edges of the trousers and with the pressure exerted may be adjusted by manipulating posts 5.
Clamping member 1 is provided at its upper edge with a suspension eye 10 and aty its bottom edge with a loop 11 having its ends 12 turned inwardly and inserted in the ends of member 1. A pair of clamping strips for each crease of the trousers legs is adjustably suspended from loop lll. Each pair of said strips comprises an inner strip 18 having an eye piece 14 secured to its upper edge and loosely embracing loop 11 as shown and an outer clamping strip 15 clamped to said inner strip. Each of the strips 15 is adjustably clamped to the corresponding strip 13 by means of clamping levers 7 which are identical with the clamping levers 7 employed for clamping members 1 and 2 together and need no description here. At their lower ends strips 15 are provided with distancing rods 16 and a clamping block 17 by means of which the distance between each pair of clamping strips may be adjusted and the lower end of said pairs of strips spread apart as shown. By this arrangement it will be observed that the pairs of clamping strips may be readily adjusted to different widths of trousers legs and applied in position over the creases at the rear and front of said legs.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variations and modifications without departing from the spirit of my invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I deem as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A trousers stretcher comprising clamping members, each of said clamping members comprising two flat pieces 13 and 15; an eye piece 6 on the edge of one of said pieces; a threaded socket 4 secur-ed to the edge of the other piece in alinement with said eye piece;
an angular post 5 threaded in said socket In testimony whereof I have signed my and passing through said eye piece, the free name to this specification in the presence of 10 end gf said post being turilied overlsaid tWo subscribing Witnesses.
mem ers' and an eccentric c am infr ever 7 pivoted in the free end of saidJ pst and JAMES J PILLIOD' contacting With the adjacent clamping piece Witnesses: to force said pieces together, substantially as HELEN F. LILLIs, described. JOSHUA R. H. PoTTs.
