To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN SOLOMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to beds 'for children and has special reference to beds for young children adapted to be located by the side of a bedstead.
The invention has for its object to provide a device which is mounted on a bed frame above the bed and which is adapted to be swung away from the side of the bed or over the same.
The invention further has for its object to provide a swinging support adapted to be hinged to the head of a bed and to either serve as a bed for a child or to contain a childs bed and to permit of the bed con taining a child to be located either away from the side of the bed or over the bed.
Referring to the accompanying drawingsz-Figure 1 is a View in perspective of a portion of a metallic bedstead having secured thereto a device serving as a childs bed constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view in horizontal section of a portion of the device shown in Fig. 1, illustrating the manner of clamping the same to a bedstead.
In carrying out the invention a frame is provided consisting of a rectangular metallic strip 1 and depending transverse curved metallic strips 2 secured at their ends to the rectangular strip 1 and midway between their ends to a longitudinal metallic strip 3 bent at one end to form the verticalv projection 4 secured to one end of the rectangular metallic frame 1. The other end of said metallic frame 1 is secured to a vertical angular metallic strip 5 of an L-shape and having its lower end bent as at 6 and secured to the longitudinal metallic strip 3 at a little distance from the outer end of said strip. The upper end of the angular metallic strip 5 and the outer end of the metallic strip 3 are each pivoted to one end of a U-shaped metallic strip 7 which is clamped to one of Specification of Letters Patent.

the uprights 8 of a metallic bed 9 by suitable clamps, as, for example, the curved metallic strips 10 and 11, the. strip 10 being riveted to the U-shaped metallic strip 7 and the curved strip 11 being hinged to the curved strip 10, each of said strips 10 and 11 having a lip 12 through which projects a bolt 13 on which is mounted a nut 14 whereby on tightening the nut the lips 12 are brought together and the curved strips 10 and 11 are clamped firmly against the upright 8. It will be seen that by means of this construction the entire device may be readily se-' cured to and detached from one of the uprights of a bedstead. The frame heretofore described, which is hinged to the U- shaped metallic strip 7 may be swung away from the side of the bed and, as shown, is located above the bed and may be swung in ward from the bed. The frame maybe covered with a suitable fabric to receive bedding and may serve itself as a childs bed or a basket or other receptacle well known as used for a young childs bed may be located in said frame.
What I claim is 2- A device for supporting a childs bed consisting of a bracket formed of a U-shaped metallic strip having clamps for detachably lar frame and pivoted to one of the arms of said bracket, and a vertical L-shaped de pending strip secured at one end to said longitudinal strip and at its upper port-ion to said rectangular frame and having its extended portion pivoted to one of the arms of said bracket.
