THOMASW. BARTHOLOMEW, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Lette-rs Patent No. 101,211, dated Mel/rch 29, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent: and making part of the same.
To all whom l'it may concern.'
Bc it known that I, THOMAS W. Blinrnonotr'nw, of New York, in the county of New York and inl the State of New York, have Yinvented a certain new and useful Sivivele'd or Duplex Suspender-Slide; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof,I reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of Vthis specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view of my improved device aster shown'.
In the annexed drawing- A and A represent two Suspenders at their crossing upon or atthe back, having fitted loosely upon each a band or slide, Band B', consisting of a strip of sheet met-alot' any suitable width, the endsofwhich are bent inward 'and downward so as to embrace said Suspenders, While, at the same time, allowing the latter to slide freely through said bands.
A rivet, C, passing loosely through the backs of the slides at their center, radially, secures them together, and serves as an axial pivot, upon and around which said slides may revolve. v
As thus constructed the device iseomplete, and being applied to a pair of' Suspenders (as shown in fig. 1,) serves to retain the latter iu .position and prevent the uncomfortable feeling occasioned by their slipping from the shoulders, without in the least interfering with the longitudinal motion necessary to enable each suspender to conform to the positious'of the body.
The slides also permit the relative angles of the suspenders to change, as may be required to adapt the latter to different forms.
I am aware that Suspenders or straps have heretofore been attached together by means of a pivot pass ing through a longitudinal slot within each strap, and do not, therefore, olaim broadly such attachment oi the same.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pivoted slides or bands B and d3', in combination with the straps A and A', substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that- I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of February,
THO. W. BARTHOLOMEW, Witnesses:
B. NALE, J. M. KEEP.
