when the bow is substantially parallel to the side B of the clamping yoke, the eccentric member G will occupy the position in which it is illustrated in Fig. 4, in which position the clamping jaws C G will be permitted to separate and release the lens. When the bow H is swung to the position of use the eccentric member G moves to the position in which it is illustrated in Fig. 3, in which position it bears forcibly against the side B of the clamping yoke and moves the clamping members C C to clamping position.
The eccentric member G has a segmental periphery normally holding the clamping yoke in clamping position while the bow is being adjusted from full open to folded position. The outer margin of the member G is relatively close to the pivot, hence, when the bow is swung outwardly the clamping. yoke releases the lens.
The arms F are preferably provided with braces J and these braces may also be formed integrally with the arms F and the clamping yoke. It is not essential to my invention however that these parts should be integrally formed, but this feature is important in providing a durable structure. It will be observed that the clamping action is secured by leaving the side B of the yoke free from any connection with the arms F, and therefore free to move inwardly under the pressure exerted by the clamping member G.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
1. In a device of the described class the combination of a lens engaging clamp a clamp actuating eccentric member pivotally connected with the clamp and a bow rigidly connected with said eccentric member said eccentric member being formed to retain the clamp in gripping position when the bow is either in position of use or swung inwardly from such position, and to release the clamp when the bow is swung outwardly from the position of use.
2. In a device of the described class, the combination with a lens, of a lens engaging clamping yoke formed of resilient material, an eccentric member pivotally supported from one side of the yoke, and having a segmental marginal portion arranged to bear upon the outer surface of the other side of the yoke to force the same to clamping position, and a bow rigidly secured to said eccentric member, said eccentric member miwshmw A having an outer surface in relatively close proximity to the point of pivotal connection, and said segmental margin being sufiiciently extended to permit the bow to swing from folded position to supporting position Without releasing the clamp.
3. In a device of the described class the combination of a lens engaging clamping yoke formed of resilient material, arms connected with one side of the yoke at an in termediate point and extending in a posi tion to straddle over the other side of the yoke, a clamping eccentric member pivotally secured between the extremities of said arms and adapted to bear upon the side of said yoke with which such arms are unconnected,
and a bow rigidly connected with the clamp ing eccentric member, said member being adapt-ed when in one position of adjustment to force the yoke arm into clamping position, said eccentric supporting arms being provided with upwardly and downwardly extending braces, and said braces, arms and clamping yoke being formed integrally from a single piece of metal.
