Be it known that we, FRITZ BRUPRACBER, a citizen of the Swiss Federal Republic, and FREDERICK PAUL VOLMER, a subject of the German Emperor, and residents of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe- Forms, of which the following is a specication.

The present invention relates to shoe forms for boots or shoes, and more particularly to that class which is made of some suitable sheet material.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a two-part shoe form with means for facilitating the insertion thereof into and the removing from a boot or shoe.

Another object of the invention is to produce a shoe form which will automatically adjust itself to the length of the boot or shoe.

With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanyingv drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accom-` panying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe form constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a detail of construction; and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

The improved shoe form` comprises a forepart 17 and a heel part 18, which are made of some suitable sheet material, for instance vulcanized ber, and are, preferably, open at their bottom parts. The portions 19 of the forepart and the portions 20 of the heel part overlap each other. In the portions 20 of the heel part are provided longitudinal slots 21, 21, which are engaged by lugs 22, which latter are secured in any suitable manner to the portions 19 of the forepart 17. A bail 23 is pivoted at 24:, 24 to the movement of the bail toward the forepart 17L relative to the heel part 18.

drawings, in which the shoe form is in its shortest form. The bail 23 is then drawn toward the forepart 17, whereby the heel part 18 will swing around the lugs 22, which act thus as pivots. The forepart of the shoe form is then engaged with the shoe and pushed toward the toe part thereof, and when then the bail 23 is turned downward, the heel part of the form will be seated in the heel part' of a shoe. When now the bail 23 is forced toward the heel part 18, the cam surfaces 25 will act upon the lugs 22, and distend the shoe form, which will thus be forced snugly into the forepart and heel part of the shoe.

It is to be noted that the shoe form herein described is self-adjusting, fitting shoes of varying lengths.

It will be observed'that the bail serves at i the same time as a reinforcing means, strengthening those portions of the shoe form which'would naturally be the weakest.

What we claim is:

1. In a shoe form, the combination with a forepart, of a heel part provided with longitudinal slots, both parts being formed of thin sheet material, lugs attached to said forepart engaging said slots, and a bail attached to said heel part provided with cam shaped ends adapted toact against said lugs for distending said shoev form, substantially as specified.

2. In a shoe form, the combination with a forepart, of a heel part provided vwith longitudinal slots, both parts being formed of thin sheet material, lugs attached to said forepart engaging said slots, a bail attached to said heel part provided with cam shaped ends adapted to act against said lugs for distending said shoe form, pins carried by said heel part against which said bail is adapted to abut, whereby said heel part is swung around said lugs as said bail is turned toward said forepart when in contact with said pins.

3. In a shoe form, the combination with a forepart, of a heel part provided with Iongitudinal slots, both parts being formed of thin sheet material, lugs attached to said orepart in engagement with said slots, a.

bail pivoted to said heel part provided with means contacting with said lugs Jfor distending said shoe form, and means upon said heel part adapted to prevent the relative movement of said heel part and bail when said bail part contacts with said last mentioned means, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
