DISPLAY DEVICE.

citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, count-y of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in display devices especially designed for use in displaying cloth samples or other similar articles which may be mountedk or pasted upon cards for display purposes; the present invention being a division of my application Serial #57 2,112 filed July 15th, 1910.

The object of this invention is the provision of a display device which will be of improved construction and of great efficiency 1n use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

With these objects in view myinvention consists in a display device characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a portion of a display device embodying my invention, the same being shown in extended condition, Fig. 2 isa section taken on line .fr-m

of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the device in folded condition, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail taken through one of the pockets employed in the device. v

The preferred form of my invention as illustrated in the drawing comprises an elongated iexible strip 1 preferably of fabric. Secured to one side of said strip 1 are equally spaced transversely extending strips 2, said strips 2 being of rigid construction, the same being preferably formed of cardboard. Said strips 2 are so arranged that the intermediate unattached portions 3 of the strip 1 will be of substantially the same width as said strips so that the strip 1 may be folded together in Zig-Zag fashion or as clearly shown in Fig. 3, the strips 2, when the member 1 is so folded, being arranged in vertical alinement. Provided in the lateral edges of each of the cards 5 adjacent one extremity thereof are transversely alining notches 6. Said notches, as will be observed, permit of the engagement of the end portions of the lateral edges of the cards 5 with the pockets t, it being obviously necessary in effecting such engagement to buckle the cards 5 in order to decrease the width thereof. Thus said cards 5 are detachably secured in position 70 upon the strips 2, permitting of ready attachment thereof to said strips or expeditious detachment thereof therefrom. When the strip 1 is in extended condition the cards 5 will assume overlapping positions expos- 75 ing the outer end portions thereof upon which will be arranged the articles or samples for display. o

When not in use, the device may be folded together as above described to occupy a minimum amount of space. It is apparent that folding or unfolding of the device may be readily and quickly effected. Strip 1 may be made of any length in order to accommodate a greater or less number of strips 2 85 and hence cards 5 so that any number of samples may be readily displayed in a single device of this character.

The device as set forth is durable and economical, and the samev is of great efiiciency in use.

While I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my displaying device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and the arrangements of parts described without departing from the spirit of the invention as comprehended within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a display device, the combination of a plurality of similar display cards; and means for detachably securing said cards together, said means comprising an elongated flexible strip; and spaced securing devices arranged upon said strip for detachable engagement of the lateral edges of said display cards, substantially as described.

2. In a display device, the combination of a plurality of similar display cards; and

ranged to permit insertion of a portion of each side thereof in said pocket, substantially as described.

4. As a means for securing display cards means for detachably securing said cards together, said means comprising an elongated ieXible strip; transversely extending rigid reinforcing members spaced upon said iiexible strip; and engaging means at the eX- tremities of said reinforcing members adapted to detachably engage portions of the lateral edges of said display cards, substantially as described.

8. As a means for securing display cards in position, a member having inwardly opening oppositely disposed pockets, the cards being provided with a notch in each side at a distance from one end substantially equal to the Width of said pockets and arin position, a comparatively rigid member having inwardly opening oppositely disposed poclrets, the cards being provided with a notch in each side at a distance from one end substantially equal to the Width of said pockets and arranged to permit insertion of a port-ion of each side thereof in said pockets, substantially as described.
