To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR A. OLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eagle Bend, in the county of Todd and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to pump holders which are used to secure a pump to one of the upright bars of a cycle frame.
The principal object of the same is to provide a pump holder which will securely hold the pump and which at the same time will be capable of being very readily unfastened so that the pump can be removed.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a pump secured to a portion of a cycle frame by means of the improved securing device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of'the brackets used for holding the pump to the frame. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary View of the end portion of one of the brackets. Fig. 4: is an end elevational view of one of the brackets.
This invention comprises a lower bracket 1 and the upper brackets 2 and 3. The lower bracket is formed from two strips of resilient metal which are curved intermediate their length to form a collar 4 surrounding the bar 5 and have end portions which are secured together by means of the rivet 6 to form a supporting tongue 7 The opposite end portions 8 from the tongue 7 are adjustably secured together by the bolt 9 and nut 10 to hold the bracket in place. As this bracket is formed from spring metal the resiliency of the strip acts as a locking means for holding the nut 10 upon the bolt 9. Each of the upper brackets 2 and 3 is also formed from strips of spring metal. A strip of metal is bent near one end to form a securing lip 11 and is then curved to form a collar section 12. The strip is then bent to form the spacing web 13 and is then curved to form a collar section 14. The lip 15 is pointed and flares outwardly to form a latching tongue which also forms an abutment. A second strip of resilient metal has a securing lip 16 which is removably secured to the securinglip 11 by means of the bolt 17. The'strip is curved intermediate its length to form a collar section 18 which registers with the collar section 12 and with it forms a securing collar by means of which the bracket is removably secured to the bar A spacing web 19 is formed at the end of the collar section 18 and is secured to the spacing web 13 by means of the rivet 20 and has its end portion formed into a set of hinge ears.
A curved collar section 21 is provided with hinge cars at one end which are pivotally mounted between the hinge ears of the web 19 by means of a pin 22 and has its free end bent to form a latching lip 23, which is provided with the opening 24, and with the abutment tongues 25 and 26. A wire latch 27 is passed through the opening 24 and has its ends placed together to form a finger hold 28 by means of which the latch may be rocked.
In the operation of this device, the brackets 1, 2 and 3 are secured to the bar 8 and the pump 29 rests upon the supporting tongue 7 of the bracket 1 and the upper portion of the pump is then placed within the outer collars of the brackets 2 and 3 and the collar sections 21 of each of the brackets 2 and 3 are swung inwardly until the lip- 23 of each of the brackets abuts against the lip 15. The latch 27 is then brought upwardly, so that the lip is engaged by the latch and the collar section 21 will then be held in place. It should be noted that by having the lip 15 flared outwardly that the latch is prevented from accidentally coming unfastened, and it should also be noted that the abutments 25 and 26 prevent the latch from being swung beyond the desired distance.
What I claim as my invention is A clamp comprising a stationary member, a pivoted member, a latch pivotally connected with said stationary member, and tongues struck from said stationary member and bent to form stops to limit the movement of said latch in one direction.
