MELLVIN R. GREEN, OF WARWICK, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, BENJAMlN W T. CLEMENGE, AND GRINNELL BURT, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 101,001, dated Ma/rch 22 1870.
"the Schedule referred to in them: Letters Patent and making p 0f lime- To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, MELLvm R. GREEN, of Warwick, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Device for Applying and Retaining Sash-Pulleys and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view, partly in section, of my invention.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondlng parts.
This inventionhas for its object to facilitate the attachment of sash-pulleys to the window-finmes, and to simplify the construction of the devices by which such pulleys are held in place.
The invention consists in hanging such pulleys in screw-blocks, which are screwed into the frame without trouble, and which retain the pulleys securely, allowing their ready removal and replacement. The difiicult operation of cutting a rectangular mortise into-the frame, and of fitting the pulley-frame into the same, as well as the necessity. of providing the expensive flame, are thereby overcome.
The plug A is made of metal or other suitable material, of cylindrical form, and has a screw-thread cut upon it, as shown, so that it can be screwed into a suitable aperture provided for it in the sash-frame. The plug may be flattened on one, two, or more sides, in order to economize material. Such reduction should,
however, not extend to the front end.
The plug is perforated longitudinally to receive the pulley B, which is hung on a pin, a, fitted through the plug. Two such pulleys may, if desired, be provided in one plug, as shown, in which case they may be smaller, as usual.
The front face, b, of the plug is of circular form, or, if the entire plug is flattened on the sides, from from; to rear, a circularplate may be secured upon it.
The insertion of the plug is easy, and, when in place, it will securely hold the pulley in place.
I am aware that a tubular casing with two wheels, a tubular casing with screw-threads, and. a groove of glass, a divided tubular casing with groove, wheels, and thread, are not of my invention, and these I do not seek to claim; but I What 1 do esteem to he of my invention, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-- The cylindrical casing cast in a single piece, ant
provided with one or more rollers and a screw-threat for inserting the case in the window-frame.
