y WILLIAM s. oI-IINKLIAW. or LANARK. ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 100,987, dated lI/[areh 22, 187 0;
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame To all whom it may concern.-
Be 'it known that I, WILLIAM S. CRINKLAW, of Lanark, in the county of Carroll and State (of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop- Head; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming. part of this specitication'. K
- The object of this invention is to furnish a cheap and durable head for 'mops, one that is not likely to break or get out of order; and p It consists in a frame and lever-jaw, constructed, arranged, and operating as hereinafter deecribed.
The accompanying drawing represents` a view of a mop-head constructed according to my invention.
A is the frame, which is made of suitable sized iron or other metallic rod or wire bent into the general shape of common mop-heads, with the ends confined in the handle B, as seen in the drawing.
0n each side of the frame, eyes C C are formed hy bending. g
, D represents the lever-jaw, which is made of' iron or other metallic wire or rod, with the jaw parallel with the bar F of the frame.
:The ends of .the jaw arebent atright angles with the bar and -turned through the eyes C C, as secu in the drawing.
G is the lever of the jaw, which is an extension of one of the ends.` Its extreme end is bent and made to catch over the side of the frame, asseen'at H.
By releasing this end from the frame, the jaws may be opened and the cloth for the mop introduced.
There is suiicient spring in the lever to allow the end to hook over the frame, and 'thus tightly hold the mop for use. This is a most simple, cheap, and du'- rable arrangement. The iron may be bent cold, so that the metal retains its full strength, and allows the head to,4 be made rapidly and at a slight expense, while, it is made more durable and much less liable to break or get out or order than the costly and complicated mop-heads now in use, which are usually Vsupplied with springs which cori-ode and break, or screwaiuts that will not turn.
' Having thus described my invention,
I claim -as new and desire to secure by Letters Iatentf A mop-head composed of the frame A and the lever-jaw D, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
WILLIAM S. CRINKLAW.
