Letters Patent No. 100,952, dated March 15, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN .ASH-SHOVEL.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
To all Awhom it may concern:
ington, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Ash-Sifter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my ilnproved ash-sitter.
Figure 2 is al detail transverse section of' the saine, taken on the plane of the line :v x, fig. 1.

This invention relates to anew method ofconstructing the perforated bottom Of a shovel which is used for sifting ashes, and consists in the application of rods, vwhich are fitted between two sets ofl cuirugated plates, as hereinafter' more fully described.
A, in the drawing, represents the blade of a shovel in which there is a large central aperture.
Across this aperture is placed aseries oflongitudinal rods, B B, which with their ends fit into depressions provided for them in the blade A, as shown in lig. 2.
C O are corrugated plates fitted over the ends of the rods B, and riveted or Otherwise fastened to the blade A.
These plates C fit with their their bent-up parts over the ends of the rods and confine the same, therefore, in the desired places. This shovel can be used for sifting ashes and other material.
