BUCKLE.
Be it known that I, EUGENE DEso-,a citi- Y zen of the United States vof America, and resident of Ware, in the county-of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of `whichthe following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a class of buckles of a kind comprising button shank engaging loops and available for use in situations where, for instance, the buckle is secured by a usual form of prongs or teeth, and a bow member to a strap or suspender while an object, as, for instance, the waist band of a garment having'buttons, is suspended by the engagement of the Shanks lof the buttons in the loops of the buckle frame.
My device may be called a locking loop buckle, inasmuch as it comprises members relatively hinge connected and having oppositely bent loops, the mouths of 'which register with each Vother so that when the button provided part is properly engaged in the loops there can be no disengagement e-X- cepting under a purplosed manipulation whereby the Shanks of' t e buttons are shifted away from engagement in one set of loops to'dispositions in the other set of loops, then making it permissible to swin one of the loop provided members away om its normal plane so that the shank of the buttons will be disengaged from within the loops into which they had been temporarily` shifted.
The invention is described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and is set forth in the clalms.
In the drawings z-Figure l is a front view of my improved buckle; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the manner of changing the position of relatively movable parts to permit the disengagement of the button provided part from the buckle; Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are views respectively corresponding to Figs. 1, 2 and 3,
but showing a construction of the bucklel which, while modified from that illustrated .inthe first series of views is within, and embodies, the present invention.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the views.
Proceeding to describe the `form of buckle represented -in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 exactly as there represented, it will be seen that the Specification of Letters Patent.

' Patented nov. 21,1911.
buckle is composed of three wire formed members A, B and- C, the one A being Vthe body or buckle frame, B being the bow which coacts with the fastening prongs or teeth, while the one C has button shank receiving loops arranged` in opposition to the button shank accommodating loops of the buckle frame. 'v
The buckle frame member has the intermediate portion a thereof made with a pair of upwardly extending loops b b while the end port-ions are made with upward bends `terminate in eyes 17, 17, that have hingelike engagements-with the opposed pair of upper inward bends 14, 14, of the buckle frame. And the third vwire member C has its intermediate portion downwardly ret-urn bent in the form of an elongated loop 18,--to form an operating handle for such member C,-and the portions of this wire outside of the handle loop are downwardly return bent to form comparatively shallow button-shank engagingloopsd d, while the extremities comprise upwardly extending portions 20,
20, which terminate in eyes 22, which -haveY f hinge engagements with the aforementioned l'ower pair of inwardly extending portions 12, 12, of the buckleframe.
The part to be supported is represented as provided with buttons'y y, the diameters of which are greater than the widths of the loops b' and d while their shanks'are somewhat less in diameter than the 'widths of such loops; and the manner of the locking engagement of the buttons with the loop provided parts of the buckle is clearly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. The Shanks of the buttons are drawn, or settled down into the shallow loops d d, the mouths of which are opposite or in registry with the downwardly open mouths b b of the loops of the buckle frame; and it rwill be apparent that the circular bodies of the buttons serve 'as locking means to prevent the looped frame C from being swung from its normal position in plane with the buckle frame. But when the button provided portion of apparel is to be disconnected from the buckle, the button provided piece is moved upwardly so that the Shanks, of the buttons are well up into the loops 5,-which are comparatively deep-, and so that the heads or bodies of the buttons are clear and away from overlapping relation to the hinge connected loop provided member C this member now being out of the way of the shanks of the buttons, the part carrying the latter may be downwardly vdrawn away from the buckle rame, this description of the mode of disconnection being clear when read in conjunction with Fig. 3 of the drawings.
InFigs. 4, 5 and 6 the lower shallow loops d', d', having upwardly open mouths, are represented asprovided in the transverse lower portion a of the buckle frame; and the member C which is hinge connected to the buckle framev is arranged with downwardly deep loops b and with downwardly open mouths above and inside of the-lower loop provided portion of the buckle frame. In this case the shanks of the buttons for disconnection will be moved upwardlywell into the deeper loops b", b', land the hinge connected part C in which these last mentioned loops are provided will be swung to the angular position shown in Fig. 6 in con# junction with the button provided piece m so that when out of plane with the buckle frame the Shanks of the buttons may be drawn downwardly out of the loops b. For a maximum of utility double pairs of the registering loops are provided,-but the invention is not to be confined to the duplication of these features, as buckles having but one pair of thelocln'ng loops in the relative arrangements indicated would be measurably useful.
1. A device of the character described, comprising a pairV 'of hingedly connected members, each of said members including a horizontally disposed member, one of said horizontally disposed members having inwardly extending loops ormedtherein and the other of said horizontally disposed members having outwardly extending loops formed therein which register with the rst named loops, and a linger engaging member carried by the last named horizontal member.
2. A device of the `character described, l
composed of two wire formed members, one of which comprises a pair of vertical side bars which terminate at their upper ends in transverse extensions, a transverse connecting member connecting the lower ends of said vertical side bars, said transverse member having a plurality of downwardly extendingloops formed therein; said second member comprising a pair of vertical side bars which lie within the first mentioned side bars and which are hingedly connected at their upper ends with said transverse extensions, a transverse, member connecting the lower ends of the last named side bars and formed with a plurality of upwardly extending loops which register with said downwardly extending loops, substantially as shown and described.
