BRACKET FOR WINDOW-WASHERS AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJMAN B. EAST- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Windew-Washers and the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is an adjustable folding bracket for the use of window Washers and for use in the painting of the outside of window sash, and for like purposes.
The objects of the invention are to provide a window bracket that shall be readily adjustable to accommodate walls of different thicknesses, that shall be capable of lateral adjustment to suit windows of difl'erent widths, and that shall be simple in construction and capable of being folded into a compact package when not in use.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section, showing the window bracket applied .to a window frame; Fig. 2 is a top plan view broken away in part, the dotted lines indicating the lateral adjustment of the bracket to suit various widths of windows; Fig. 3 is a bottom view partly broken away, showing the bracket folded and Fig. 4 is a perspective detail showing the connection of the bracket tubes to the platform.
In the drawings, 1 represents the wall of a building to which the bracket is applied. The bracket consists in a slatted platform 2, the slats of which are arranged to slide past each other, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 8, when the width of the bracket is changed. The platform is supported by a pair of horizontal tubes 3, having inserted end pieces 4: which are bent downwardlyand are provided with a clamping screw 5 adaptedto take against the inside of the wall. The
' tube 3 is pivoted to the platform by means Specification of Letters Patent.

of bearings 13. The lower part of the tube 3 is formed with a slot 6 which terminates short of the rear or outer end of the tube 3. A triangular frame 7 is carried by the tube 3. The upper horizontal member 8 of the frame telescopes with the tube 3, and is entirely surrounded for a portion of its length by tube 3, the downwardly projecting member of the frame 7 being received in the slot 6. The member 8 may be secured in a number of adjusted positions along the tube 3 by means of a pin 9 passing through a hole in the tube 3 and through one of a plurality of holes 10 provided in the member 8. By this means the bracket 7 may be adjusted in or out, as indicated in Fig. 1, to accommodate walls of various thicknesses. The frames 7 may be folded inwardly against the platform, as indicated in Fig. 3, the tubes 3 being loosely mounted on the platform 2 to permit their turning.
In practice I prefer to provide a railing around the platform, the railing consisting preferably of suitable bars 11 supported on corner posts 12 hinged to the platform and adapted to fold down when not in use, as indicated in Fig. 1.
By the means above described I have produced a bracket that is adjustable both laterally to accommodate windows of differentwidths, and longitudinally to accommodate walls of different thicknesses. Also a bracket that is simple in construction, durable, and not likely to get out of order.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a window bracket, the combination with a laterally extensible platform, of a pair of supporting tubes revolubly secured to said platform, each of said tubes formed with a slot that terminates short of the outer end of said tube, a triangular bracket carried by each of said tubes, the horizontal member of each bracket telescoping with its tube and being entirely surrounded for a portion of its length by said tube, the upright member of said bracket received in the slot of said tube; the horizontal member of In testimony whereof, I afiix my signasaid bracket formed with a plurality of ture in presence of two Witnesses. holes said tube having an openin and a pin passing through said openi l ig and BENJMAN EASTMAN through one of the holes in the horizontal Witnesses:
CHRISTINE A. BRAIDEL,
member of said bracket, for the purpose set forth. GEO. W. SMITH.
