This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in au article for filling cans in the processof `preserving fruits, meats, vegetables, and all similar a1tcles,bysealing them from the atmosphere, whereby the operation of filling the'.` cans with the article to be preserved is greatly facilitated; and `V The invention consists in a funnel-shaped filler provided with aisuitable orifice, and with flanges. or collars, as hereinafter more fully described.v

On the bottoni of the filler there 'are two flanges o r :collars D and E. The former sets'down onto the top of the can'and incloses its mouth, as seen inthe drawing.- 'lhe other enters the mouth of the can and delivers the fruit or other article `into the,` body of the can, thus keeping the top of the can and packingperfectly clean and dry. 1 The flange or collar -D which rests upon the can keeps the ller inrplace while the can is being filled.
The advantages of this article for the filling of cans are many, and will be obvious to all who have experiencedv-the difficulties incident to the ordinary method.
