To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. Hnnnnason, a
" citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful SafetyRazor, of which the following is 'a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in safety razors.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of safety razors, and to provide a simple, practical and attractive single edged safety razor of comparatively inexpensive construction, adapted to present the general appearance of an ordinary razor and foldable in a'similar manner.
A. further objectof the invention is to provide a safety razor of this character, equipped with a guard for protecting the face of the user against injury and adapted to be honed or stropped in the ordinary manner without taking it apart or afiixing ad ditional parts.
With these and other objects in view, the
, invention consists in the construction and without departing from the novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and ointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various c ang'es in the form, proportion,-siz'e and minor details of construction, within the scope of the' claims, may 'be resorted to s iritor sacrificing any of the adva tages of In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a sideelevation of a safety razor, constructed in accordance with this invention. -Fig. 2 is a 10m itudinal sectional view of the same, the bla e'being'shown in elevation. holder is stamped or otherwise formed from a blank 4 of suitable sheet metal such as German silver. The blank, which is oblong, 1s composed of'a narrow portion, which is bent into-tubular form, the side edges 5 belng spaced apart to ermit the introduction of a blade 6. The lank is also provided with a wider portion, which is bent longitudinally around the filling piece 7, forming a casin or housing 8 for the filling piece 7. The fill ng piece and the casing form a shank, which present ,flat side faces to the inner faces of the sides 3 of the handle cf the razor, and the filling piece 7 is extended beyond the casing 8 and shaped to form t 9 to enable the'razor to be grasped and in the same manner as an ordinary ra nor.
The blade 6, which consists of thin steel, is sharpened at one edge and is secured within a clamp, composed of two sides or. jaws 10, provided at their inner rear edges; with registering eyes 11, through which passes a pintle rod 12. When the clamp, the blade and the guard are introduced at the holder, the inner end of the guard is located between spaced portions 18 of the sides of the casin 8 of the holder, the metal at the longitudinal edges 19 being cut away at the inner end of the casing, and the filling piece being terminated short of the tubular holder to permit the inner end of the guard to operate between the spaced port-ions 18 of the. sides of the casing. The guard has a limited movement when its inner end is located between the spaced side portions 18, and the play is just suflicient, as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawing to permit the guard to protect the face of the person using the razor. When, however, it is desired to strop or hone the razor,
the guard, the blade and the clamp are moved outwardly-in the holder by pressing on the inner end of the guard to carry the latter opposite recesses 20 in the side edges The.

By this construction the blade may be honed and stropped without removing it from the razor, and the latter may be held and operated similar to an ordinary razor, while stroppin or honing.- Also it is unnecessary to a x any parts to the razor to put it -in condition for'honing or sharpening, and ready access is afforded to the blade to permit the same to be removed and re- 1 placed by a new blade when necessary.

A safety razor provided with a blade having-a pivotally mounted guard arranged to oscillate across the cutting edge' of the blade, said razor being provided with means for limitin the oscillatory movement of the guard and aving means for also permitting an increased oscillatory movement of the guard to permit the blade to be honed and stropped without removal from the razor.
1 2. A safety razor including a detachable blade, a clamp engaging and carrying the blade, an oscillatory guard connected with and carried by the clamp, and a handle having a pivoted holder detachably receivingthe clamp and adapted with the clamp to fold within the handle.

A safety razor including a blade, a clamp engaging the blade, a handle having a pivoted holder receiving the clamp, and a pivotally mounted guard oscillating across the cutting edge of the blade, said holder having spaced means for limiting the oscillatory movement of the guard and provided beyond such spaced portions with recesses to permit an increased movement of the guard to expose the blade for stropping or honing the blade, the clamp and the guard bein 'slidable in the holder to arrange the guar a guard also pivoted to the clamp by the pintle rod, and a handle having a holder receiving the clamp and provided with means for limiting the movement of the guard.

A safety razor including a blade, a clamp composed of spaced sides or jaws engaging the blade and provided with alined eyes, and a pintle ,rod passing through the eyes and forming a hinge connection between the sides or jaws, a guard also pivoted to the clamp by the pintle rod,.and a holder receiving the clamp and provided with means for limiting the movement of the guard for shaving and having means for permitting an increased movement of the guard to expose the bladefor stropping or honing.

A safety razor including a detachable blade, a clamp composed of sides or jaws engaging the blade and provided with eyes, and a pintle rod'passing through the eyes and forming a hinge connection between the sides or jaws and provided with reduced terminals forming projecting pivots, an oscillatory guard mounted on the said pivots and connected with the clamp by the said pintle rod, and handle having a holder receiving 9.
