RUDOLPH W. WITTEMANN, OF NEW YORK. N. Y., ASSIGNGR T0 WITTEMANN BROTHERS,
OF NEWYORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION 0F NEWr YORK. y
BOTTLE-CAPPING .MACHINE To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that. I, RUDOLPH W'. VVrr'rrz- Malaria citizen ot' the United States, residing at the city of New York, borough of Specification of Letters Patent.
i l l l i Brooklyn, Kings county, in the State off Yew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Cappingr Machines, of'which the following is a fnil, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hottie. capping machines, and the same has tor its objectY more particularly to provide a simple, ellicient and reliable apparatus by means of which a metallic or other eap may be readily and (lul)- applied to the neck of a bottle.
Further, said invention has for' its olfijeet to providetan apparatus` in which the cap is applied to the bottle h v :inelastic coinpression cup actuated under the intluenee ot tluid displaced within a receptzu'leainl surrounding said compression cup.
Further, said invention has for its object. to provide means' for compensating tor any loss of the. operating tluid by leakage, and preventing the cushioning of the non-elastic tiuid contained within the casing whereby the. compression cup is actuated to apply a metallic cap to a hottie neck.
Further, `aid invention has for its oi.- ject to provide means adapted to be forced into the fluid receptacle or its communicatingv parts in order to displace a portion of the tluid therein and thereby maintain said [luid casing' and its connected parts coinpletcl)Y tilled with the operating liquid.
To the attaimuentot the aforesaid oijects and ends .my invention consists in tit: novel.. details of construction and in the conihination, connection and arrangement. of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed outl in the, claims.
ln the accom|mn viug drawings fox-Illing par( ot this spccitiration. wherein like nnmerals otl reference indicate like parts. Figure. l is a central longitudinal section showing one t'orm of cappinf machine construct.-
ed according to and embodyingf my .said invention: Fig. is an enlarged detail central sectional view .showiner the means for displacing :l portion of the Huid in order to make up for that'. which may he lost. from time to time in the. course of the operation of the machine, and Fig. IS is an enlarged dedevice.
In .said drawings 10 designates .the apparatus as a whole comprising a easing 11 having a horizontal openingl therein adjacent'. to its hase provided with at'lalyge 12, into which opening is fitted an elastic compression cup 1.3 preferably made of rubber having a. lateral tiange H at. its outer portionI adapted to be fitted in an annular recess in the. tiange- 12 of the casing and secured in position thereon hv means of an annular plate 15 secured to said casing 11 by bolts 16, 16, and 17 denotes a packing interposed between the llange. 14 of the elastic cup and the annular plate 15. The said packing 17- is provided with a central opening in line wit-h the opening, in the outer or forward end of the compression cup 13 to receive a bottle neck and cap.
lb denotes a. tlanged member arranged't'o 1l. serew-threzuhal and provided with a nut 22 for maintaining the inner end of said compression cup 13 duly in position within said casing.
'lhe casing 11 Vis provided with a vertical section 2? which communicates with the horizontal portion thereof and is provided. at its upper cud with a shoulder 2t, and upon its outer surface with screw-thremls Q6 denotes a nut provided with a central opening' and adapted for engagement with the screw-threaded upper end ot' the vertical portion Q3 of the casing. Within the upper end of the vertical portion 23, and resting upon the shoulder .2-1, iS disposed a. packing 2T upon which is arranged a ring '2S having' its upper edge adapted for contact with the under surface of the nut 2G.
2S) denotes a hollow plunger adapted to work within the upper end of the vertical portion .23 of the casing, which plunger hasl its upper end interiorly threaded and adapt.- cd to receive the screw-tln-eaded portion 30 of a nut. '31, and 3! denotes a packing dis- .Patented Nov. 7, 1911'. Application led January 17, 1910` Serial lo. 538,477.
