Description
' A. S. WELLS'. LADLE FR POURING METALS.
No. 100,826.- Patented Mar. 15. r187.0. I
In' m (Umm,
' Inventor.
@anni @ritira ALBERTy S. WELLS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 100,826, dated March 15, 1870.
1, ALBERT S. Wenns', of New Britain, in the county of Hartford, and- State of Connecticut, have invented a new and improved Batlle-Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
My inzeution consists in the employment of a refieotor attached to aladle-handle in such position that, by means of a universal joint, it may he made to re- -lleet the Iightfrom the molten metal in the ladle on to the mold being filled.
Iii-the accompanying drawings- Fignrel isa perspective view of my invention.
-Fignre y2, a.front elevation of thc same as removed from the ladle; and
Figure Sien side elevation of the same.
In foundries it 's often customary to work until twilight orafter, in which ease the light from the molten metal relieets upward, blinding the eyes of the operntor and lighting all the upper parts of the room, while the molds' on the floor are in the darkest place in the room, so that it is-diicult to see to fill them.
' The design of my inventionis to' furnish a convenient means of throwing the light onto the mold being filled, and also shade the eyes of the operator.
A designates an ordinary ladle, and
B, `its handle,
u e ,designate clamps pivoted atb, and regulated byv the thumbscrew c.
On one end of one of the clamps a a is an arm, d, the end of which is provided with a ball which ts in The bleek f is secured to a plate, g, provided with arms 1 1 1 1, which are bent over the edge of rceetor O so as to retain itin its place.
The reflector must be of some hard material which will not be injured by the heat or the spalters which ily from the molten metal. Silver plate is well adapted to this purpose.
By means of the spurs 1 1 1 1 the reflector C-can be readily removed for replating or any similar pnrpose when desired.
I do not wish to confine myself to the particular form of clamping mechanism herein shown, or to the balla'md-soeket joint, as any of the mechanicall eqnilvalents for the same will answer equally as well for the. same purpose.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the reflector C and its adjustable mechanism with a melders ladle, all arranged in relation to each other substantially as described.
ALBERT S. WELLS.
