lie it known that 1, James G. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and. State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to household machines adapted to rotate a brush, stone, egg beater or the like, and the principal object of the same is to provide a machine of the type specified that may be adjust-ably con nected to a support, and in which the tool or implement carrier of the machine is hinged to the body so that it may be swung to angular positions relative to said body.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a sink showing the improved machine adjustably connected to the faucets thereof. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary top plan view thereof showing the tool carrier swung at right angles to the support. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the tool rotating means. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the support for the machine.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, l designates the body which forms the support for the improved machine, said body being preferably in the form of an elongated flat bar that is provided with a central longitudinal slot 2. Bolts 3 project through said slot 2, said bolts having a hook-shaped end 4 adapted for engagement about a faucet G. Thumb-nuts 7 are provided for said bolts by'means of which the body may be clamped to the fancets, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. As will be obvious, the slot 2 permits adjustments of the bolts longitudinally of the body.
At one end the body 1 is provided with a pivot stud 8 which is engaged by the eye 9 of an arm 10 projecting from a plate 11. Said plate is provided with a transverse bearing 12 in which a shaft 13 is mounted. Said plate is also provided with outstanding spaced parallel bearing, lugs 14 and 14" in which a shaft 15 is mounted, said shaft 15 is arranged at right angles to shaft 13 and carries a pinion lti that is in mesh with a master gear 17 carried by shaft 13. linion 16 is retained in rigid relation to shaft 15 by the screw or equivalent fastener 18 and rests on lug 1A". The lower end of shaft .15 is provided with a tool holding socket lt) in which a shank of a tool or implement may be detachably fastened by the thumb screw :30. The gear 17 is provided with a handle 21 by means of which said gear may be manually rotated.
in use, the body is attached to the faucets of a sink, or to any other suitable supports, by means of the bolts 3 and thumb nuts 7, and a tool or implement attached to the socket of shaft 15. It will be clear that by rotating gear 17, shaft 15 will be similarly actuated so that the tool or implement carried thereby will be rapidly revolved. It will also be seen that through the medium of the hinge connection of the plate 11 with body 1, the tool or implement may be swung to or away from said body, and, by means of a thumb nut 22 carried by the pivot stud S, the plate 11 may be locked in the desired angular position relative to the body.
As will be clear, the machine may be used for cleaning purposes, or for culinary purposes, and through the use of the bolts 3 and nuts 10, the machine may be readily supported over a sink so that the dirt incidental to its use may be easily removed.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A machine of the character described comprising a flat elongated body provided with a central longitudinally extending slot, a right angularly projecting upstanding pivot stud carried by one end of said body, bolts extending through said slot and provided with end hooks for engaging supports, clamping nuts for locking said bolts to said supports, a plate provided with an arm hav ing a sleeve for pivotally engaging said stud, a tool holder rotatably attached to said plate, and means for rotating said tool holder.
