Description
l To all'who'm it may 'concern f l L nted 5eme @aient 'iljliwg MAOKD. conve-RSE.'Ori` LONDON, OHIO.
Laim Patent No. 100,605-, dated March s, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT `IN BRAD-SETTER.
The Schedule refrred to in these Letters Patent and making part of Athe same.
Beit known that I, MAOK'TD. CONVERSE, of Lon- `don, in the A,county of Madison, and State of Ollio,
have `invented a new and improved GlaziesPoint- Driver; and I do hereby declare that the following is ayfull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in whichl Figure -1 is a side elevation, showing the brad-res ervoir open, together with a longitudinal section through the handle;
v Figure 2 is a plan, rsh owing the operation of the u slide; and
Figure 3 is an elevation, showing the operation of the feed-spring.` I
This invention relates to a semi-annular Vshaped chamber, in which the triangular points used for settingglaes are placed, said chamberheing shaped in y conformity with the brads or points, and being conbined with a feed-spring that keeps the points at the spot where they are required foruse, and with a slide and guide, by and through which the points are driven, one by one, into the sash.` l
In the drawings-e A is the semi-annularchamber or reservoir, which holds the points, having its inner side parallel with l the adjacent sides of the points, so as to hold them in unbroken column. y Y
'lhe outer side of` the chamber may be curved outy w'ard at the top, to'enahle the points to he readily put in place. y r
'lhe chamber has'a hinged cover, A', which shuts over it when in use, and prevents the pointsfrom falling out.` Y l y c 'll/he inner side of `the chamber is lower than the outer side, so as to leave a space for the play of the l feed-spring, when thecover is closed.
'.lhe chamberAis affixed at one end to the extremity of a rod, B, which enters a socket in the handle B',
and is`con1ined in the socket with a coil-spring, b.
A plate, b', rigidly aiiixed to the handle at one end, projectsparallel with the rod B, past the inner open .end of the chamber A.
A plate, b, ils attached `b`y a. screw to the bar A", thatconnects the `two ends ofthe chamber, and said plate b projects past the outer open end ofthe chamg ber, and forms a guide-way through which the slide `b plays, when the handle B is shoved endwise on the rod B.
A flange, b', stands out a little from the lower side of the bar A", and forms a bottom for the said guideway.
The slide b is slotted, as se'en at e, fig. 2, for the passage of the screw e into the bar A", and the screw therefore answers as a stop for the slide.
` C is a spring arm', centrally pivoted with reference to the chamber A, and having a finger, c, entering said chamber, and placed against the rear of Jthe column of points. l
The tendency of the spring is to force the points toward the outer end ofthe chamber, so that the foremost point is always in the guide-way formed by the plate b" and flange b. y
The outer corner a of the chamber is beveled oi, as' shown in iig. 1, so that when the' slide b is thrust against the point lying in the guide-way, there may beV no obstruction to its forcing such point onward through the guide-wayinto the sash. y f
In using the instrument, the plate b" is placed against the pane, and its point against the sash. Then theslide b is operated by shoving the handle B' endwse, and at every thrust ot' the latter the slide drives a point into the sash. .The spring b retracts the handle.
The points may ber inserted as fast as the operatorv can wor-k the slide, the Outer end of the plate b is beveled otf to an edge, so that when the point emerges from the guide-way, it may be in close contact with the glass.
The end of the bar A projects beyond the end of the beveled plate, for the saine purpose.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The tool herein described, consisting of the semiciri, cular chamber A, feed-spring O, bar A, rod or stern`
