GAS-BURNER TIP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. LEEMING, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Somerset, in the county of Gunnison and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burner Tips, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a tip for attachment to a gas burning apparatus, such as miners lamps and the like, and which will provide a clear and efficient flame. For the purpose mentioned, use is made of 'a frusto-conically shaped body having a longitudinally extending flue therethrough, a baffle point formed in the said body between the ends thereof and a peripherally extending flange integrally formed at the upper end of the body and having an outer octagonal surface, the said flange being adapted to constitute a handle for removing the tip from the lamp proper and also constituting a means for protecting the flame produced at the upper end of the tip.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my gas burner tip showing the same applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the views I provide a frusto-conically shaped body 10 adapted to be vertically received in the end of a gas supply pipe 11 so that no gas can escape from between the end of the supply pipe and the body 10 at the point of connection of the supply pipe and the body. A flue 12 extends longitudinally through the body 10, that portion of the flue above the upper half of the body 10 being of a smaller diameter than the remaining portion of the flue in the lower half of the body 10. At the point where the flue 12 decreases in size in the body 10 is formed a conically shaped baffle point 13, the said baflie point being integrally formed in the body 10 and extend- Specification of Letters Patent.

Extending upwardly from the upper end of the conically shaped body 10 is an integral circular flange 14 having an outer octagonally shaped surface 15, a flame chamber 16 being formed in the body 10 by the mentioned flange 16 as will be seen in Fig. 2, the upper end of the flue 12 terminating in the chamber 16.
In the use of my device, particularly when the same is used in connection with miners lamps, the flame at the upper end of the flue 12 and in the chamber 16 will be prevented from being easily blown out or extinguished by the flange 14 which acts as a protecting wall for the flame. By providing the baffle point 13, any dust or dirt that may pass through the gas supply pipe and enter the flue 12 will lodge in the space formed between the end of the baffle point and the sides of the flue 12 opposite to the baffle point so that the mentioned dust or dirt will not enter the reduced portion of the flue and tend to clog the same, thus also tending to greatly reduce the brilliancy of the flame.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is
A burner tip comprising a frusto-conically shaped body having a longitudinally extending gas flue therein, the upper portion of the said flue being of a smaller diameter than the lower portion thereof, a flange integrally formed on the upper end of the said body and extending therefrom to form a flame chamber in the body, the upper end of the said flue terminating in the said chamber and a conically shaped baflie integrally formed on the body and extending downwardly into the larger portion of the said flue, the said baffle being disposed at the point where the said flue becomes smaller in diameter.
