Description

W. H. HEIDMANN.
WATER DISTRIBUTBR. APPLICATION FILED MAB.. 7, 1911.

. UNITED sTATEs .PATENT y oEEIoE.
f WILLIAM H. HEIDMANN, 0F EAU CLAIRE, WISCONSIN:
WATER-DISTRIBUTER. l
To all 'whom it may concern: i
Be ik known that I, WILLIAM H. HEID- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of lViscoiisin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Distributers; and I do hereby declare that the following'is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide faucets and the like each having a tubular spindle thereof provided with a crank-rod extension below its bore, and with a nozzle rigidly and detachably secured to the spindle for which it serves as a handle for actuating a valve in connection with the crank-rod extension of said spindle, said nozzle being swung to one side to close the faucet or analogous device.
Figure 1 ofthe drawings represents a partly sectional side elevation of an ec centric-valve bib-type faucet in accordance wit-h my invention, and Fig. 2, a similar view of a bubble-cup attachment that may be substituted for the nozzle of said faucet.. l,
Referring bynumerals to the drawings, 3, 4 indicate sections of a valve-casing and spindle-hearing shell of an eccentric-valve faucet or the like, 5 the bearing-shell screwcap, 6 the valve proper, 7 its stem, 8 the spindle having an eccentric rod extension 8 constituting a crank below its bore engaging an eye of the valve-stem, and 9 packing for the spindle on a flange-shoulder 8 of the same. As thus far described the faucet is similarto eccentric-valve faucets of common knowledge, except that the spindlebearing shell 4 .thereof is closed at the for- Y ward end instead of having a nozzle terminal below the packing-chamber, and the eccentric-spindle is tubular above the crankextension 8 thereof.
The upper end of the spindle 8 is preferably tapered, and in preferably groundjoint union therewith, to be watertight specification of Letters raient. Patented Oct, 10, gpplication led March 7, 1911. Serial No. 612,885.
thereon, is a bib nozzle 10, the bore of y nozzle-bore, the fitting-end of the nozzle isprovided with a notch 12 engaged by a lug 13 of t-he spindle, andl a clamp-screw 14 extends through said fitting-end of the nozzle into the closed head of said spindle. The head of the screw 14 is preferably a knob, as herein shown, and, a knob 15 is preferably provided on the nozzle 10, as is also herein shown.
While I have shown and described a practical means of detachable, but rigid, watertight connection of the fitting-end of the nozzle or water-outlet device with the upper end of the spindle 8 serve as a handle for the same, this connection may be variously made without departure from my invention as herein claimed.
In Fig. 1, the faucet is shown with its valve open and its nozzle in position to discharge into a basin or other receptacle. Hence a swing of the nozzle to one side 0r the other will result in a turning of the tubular spindle 8 to seat said valve, said nozzle being then out of the way.
The bubble-cup attachment 16 shown by Fig. 2, may be substituted for the bibnozzle in Fig. l, as the water-outlet device ofmy improved eccentric-valve water distributer, and various other forms of water outlet devices may be likewise substituted without departure from what is claimed herein. l
Iclaim:
1. A faucet comprising a combined valvecasing and spindle-bearing shell, a valve and its stem, a tubular spindle having an open lower end and a crank-rod extension below its bore engaging an eye of the valve stem, packing for the spindle, means for holding the packing in said bearing-shell, and a nozzle in union with said spindle open thereto.
2. A. faucet comprising a combined valvecasing and spindle-bearing shell, a valve and its stem, a tubular spindle having an open lower end and a crank-rod extension With an opening 1l To preserve the below its bore engaging an eye of the valve in the county of Eau Claire and State of telrlz pacing fr the spinil), nl eanshfrr Wisconsin in the presence 0f two witnesses. 1o 1n t 'e ac 1n 1n sal earm -s e anda ltiiozzle Iin detchable connectioii witli WILLIAM H HEIDMANN 5 said spindle open thereto. Witnesses:
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing J. A. PLAYTER, I have hereunto set my hand at Eau (Jlaire J. M. MARK.
