Description

L. E. MORRIS. `GOMBINIEIVD BUST PORVM'AND-UORSET COVER.
` y APPLICATION FILED DEU. 23, 1909. y l l,004,98 l Patented 0011.73, 1911.
5mn/hoz Emma E. Mor/zb UNITED STA WW LAURA E. Moms, or LIMA; omo, AssIGNoB. rro lLINUS T. FUBNAs or LIMA, onIo.
Be it known that I, LAURA MoRRIs,"a
` j Acitizen of the United States, residing at Lima, in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, have` invented certain new and use` ful Improvements in Combined Bust-Forms and Cor'setovers, of` which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of combined bust forms and corset covers and the objects of my invention are to provide a garment of the character described of improved construction and arrangement of parts which will be adapted when properly worn, to impart a desirable bust form to the waist of the wearer; to provide in conjunction with the corset cover, an improved sectional dress form so'constructed Y and arranged as to impart not only the desired bust-'like form at the front of the corset cover, but to-provide a filling beneath the arms of the wearer.
A further object of my invention consists in producing a bust form of separatelyormed sections, each of which is produced of one piece' of material.
These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in Which- Figure `1 is an inner face view of my improved bust Jform and corset cover, Fig. 2 1s an outer side view of the corset cover shown in the wearing position and with a portion of said cover b oken away to disclose the body of the bus form, Fig. 3 is an outer side view of one of the end bust form sections 'a corset cover body comprising a front portion l and extended side and back portions 2. On opposite sides of the front portion l and in the upper portion of the cover, are
formed suitable arm-holes 3. The ends of the corset cover body are adapted to be suitably connected at the middle of the back of the wearer by buttons and tapes, the latter being indicated at 4.
In forming the front portion l of the corset cover, I produce the same with separated boX-plaits 5 which taper toward their up'- Specication of Letters Patent. Application led December 23, 1909. Serial \No. 534,635.

per and lower ends and which extend throughout the height of said front portion. By the provision of these tapering boxplaits, it is obvious that a desirable outward bulge or bust form projection is provided in the front of the corset cover.
On the inner side and upper portion Yof the corset cover, I provide a bust form body, which comprises three separately formed sections, the central section being indicated at 6 and the end sections at 7. The central section which extends across the greater portion of the corset cover front, has the central portion of its upper side affixed to the corset cover at a pointv indicated at a. The end sections 7 have their outer ends stitched in connection With the corset cover adjacent to the arm holesthereof. I produce each of the end sections of one piece of fabric which is formed in the manner indicated more clearly in Fig. 4 of the drawing, with a plurality of longitudinal tucks 7a arranged one above the other. At each fold in the material which is formed in the production of said tucks, I produce by suitable parallel stitching, a longitudinal casing, two of these casings being indicated at 8 and 9 in Fig. 4 of the drawing. In constructing each of these end sections 7, the innerend of each section is provided in its lower portion with an under-arm extension such as is indicated at 7b, and the upper marginal portion of which is secured tothe corset cover beneath theadjacent arm hole. Through each of the casings of the end sections, runs a tape or draw-string 10, 'the outer ends of these tapes being connected with the ends of the casings and theremaining ends running freely out through the inner ends of said casings.
ltoward the outer ends of the latter, the
tucks are shirred in the manner indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. This being accomplished, the ends lof the draw strings or tapes 10, are tied in connection with the ends of the tapes or draw strings 11, thus connecting the three sections of the bust form body.
.cover will be properly filled, but that the usual depressions or hollows of the body beneath the arm holes, are also filled.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that simple and efficient means are herein provided for accomplishing the objects o the invention, but While the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes Within its purview such changes as may be made within the scopeA of the appended claims.
-It will be noted that by forming my improved corset cover of a plurality of seef tions, I am enabled. to obtain a ready adjustment of the form to adapt the i same to fit. smoothly and snugly. Furthermore, by employing a plurality of sections, I am enabled to obtain the desired appearance of fullness, which would be impossible were ythe form-made up of a single piece, as in the latter case, relatively long draw strings wouldbe required and it would be impossible to obtaln an even shirring. Furthermore, it will be seen that by doubling and tucking the form in the manner shown, I
am enabled to obtain a desired thickness f'to the form at the point most necessary. It will be further seen that the bust form of the present invention, embodies in its con- 'struction a central bust form section, and
end bust form sections, the sections inclining upwardly and outwardly from the center to conform to the bust and provided with flounces, and each of the sections havingpdraw strlngs at the upper edges of the fiounces detachably connecting them together.
l. The combination of a central bust form section having the opposite end portions inclining upwardly and outwardly to conform to the bust, and end bust form sections forming a continuation of the end portions of the central bust form section, and draw strings carried by each of said sections,wtl1 the draw strings of on'e section detachably connected to the draw strings of the next adjacent section.
2. A bust form comprising a central bust form section and end bust form sections, the sections incliping upwardl and outwardly from the center to con orm tothe bust and having iounces, and each of said sections having draw strings at the upper edges of the lounces detachably connecting them together.
3. A bust form comprising a body constructed of aplurality of tucked bust form sections, with the tucks extending continuouslyacross the center of. the body, and draw strings connecting the said sections together.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
