vskirt markers, and its object is to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, and

Y it consists essentially of a suitable platform,

preferably oval, radially adjustable segments extending upward around the platform, a carrier rotative outside of the segments and carrying a crayon or marker adapted to engage and mark the outer surface of the skirt opposite the said segments,`

one of the said segments being hinged to turn downward and outward to permit a person to conveniently mount the platform, and in various novel features of construction and arrangement, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is an inverted plan of the device with the base removed; Fig. 2 a vertical section of the device; Fig. 3 a side elevation of the same with one of the segments opened out; Fig. t a detail of the mechanism for operating said segments shown in vertical section; Fig. 5 the same in inverted lan View; and Fig. 6 an enlarged detail o the crayon or marker carrier.

1 represents any suitable base, preferably of cast iron, mounted upon which is a strong cylindrical post 2 on which post is mounted a platform 3 upon which platform a person may stand wearing the skirt to be marked. 4L are radially movable slides beneath the platform on the outer. ends of which are carried upwardly projecting segments surrounding the platform and radially adjusted simultaneously by means of a disk 6 rotative about the post 2 and connected to the slides by rods 5, which simultaneously adjust the slides radially as the disk is rotated by means of a manually operated-lever 7 attached thereto and projecting from betending radially from the sleeve is a bar 10 preferably angular or square in cross section; the outer end of t-he said bar, for greater strength, being Supported by a roller 11 traversing the floor and journaled in a yoke 12 fixed on the bar. Slidable on the outer end of this bar is a sleeve 13 carrying an upwardly projecting rod 14 on which is or other marker 15 adapted to traverse the `outer surface of the various segments 8.

The platform 3 and segments 8 are preferably oval in plan view and the sleeve 13 traverses freely on the rod 10 to permit the marker to traverse the surface of -the skirt surrounding the segments 8. To conveniiently permit a person to mount the platform .one of the segments 8 is hinged to the outer `end of the respective slide as at 17 and provided with an inwardly projecting lug 18 engaged by a hook or detent 19when the,

segment is vertical, said hook being mounted on a slide 20 in a housing 23 and moved into engagement with the lug by a spring 21.

22 is a handle on the slide to move the same to release the detent and permit the segment to be turned outward and down- Ward.

From the foregoing description the operation of my device will be readily understood to be as follows z-A person having on the skirt to be marked steps upon the platform and the lower part of the skirt is arranged to surround the segments which are then moved outward to engage the skirt and tension the same closely around the segments. The marker 15 is then adjusted to the proper elevation and carried around in contact with the skirt to mark the same, in a horizontal plane.

What I claim is 1. A skirt marker, comprising a platform, radially adjustable slides beneath the platform, means for simultaneously adjusting the slides, segments carried on the outer ends of the slides and projecting above the plane of the platform, and a carrier adapted to carry a crayon in a horizontal plane and in contact with a skirt supported by the segments.

2. A skirt marker, comprising a platform, radially adjustable slides beneath the platform, a rotative disk beneath the platform, rods connecting the disk and slides to simulneath the platform. 9 is a sleeve rotative ,I j Ion the post 2 and supporting the disk 6. Ex-

-mounted a clamp 1G in which is a crayon taneously adjust the same, means for manually rotating the disk, segments mounted on the outer ends of the slides, and a holder adapted to traverse a crayon around outside the segments and in contact with a skirt supported by the segments.

3. A skirt marker, comprising a base, a post on the base, a platform mounted on the post, radially adjustable slides beneath the platform, segments carried by the slides,

means for adjusting the slides, a sleeve rodisk and slides to simultaneously adjust the slides, a lever to manually rotate the disk,

a `sleeve rotative on the post, a rod radially 4 projecting from the sleeve, said rod being angular in cross section, a slide on the rod, a vertically projecting rod mounted in the slide and a holder on the last named rod and adapted to carry a crayon opposite the segments and in contact with a skirt surrounding the segments.

5. A skirt marker, comprising a platform, radially adjustable segments surrounding the platform and projecting above the plane thereof, one of said segments being hinged to turn outward and downward, means for releasably locking said segment in operative position, and a crayon carrier adapted to traverse around outside of the segments.

6. A skirt marker, comprising a base, a post on the base, a platform on the post, radially adjustable segments surrounding the platform and projecting above the plane thereof, means for adjusting the segments, a sleeve rotative on the post, a rod projecting radially from the sleeve, a yoke on the rod, a wheel journaled in the yoke and adapted to traverse the iioor, a slide on the outer end of the rod, a vertical rod mounted in the slide and a holder vertically adjustable on the last named rod and adapted to carry a crayon in contact with the skirt surrounding the segments.
